Okay guys,
As you have probally seen Ken800 and I were both experimenting with the air intake temps to see what was better. JLP Ram air or Modded STOCK box I was fooling around today and decided to do some more tests. I have tested some different setups all last week. Here is what I got, Stock air box, K&N filter, 2 1/2" Vacuum hose ram air. I tested this for about 15 minutes or so, I took it down the street and rode for about 5-7 miles, most of the time staying between 40-50 mph. Had 2 red lights that lasted about 6 minutes. The temp outside was 61 degrees and the air intake temp NEVER was higher than 64 degeres. The setup today was DUAL tubes coming into one mounted under the intercooler, and the air box boot conected to the fender. The engine temp was 180-185 degrees. I'll post some more results in a few days, I just wanted to post this before I forgot. ![]()

Thanks for the info! Only 3 degrees over ambient, even while sitting at the light? That's pretty cool (pun intended).
I have my stock airbox on, but the rubber boot is the wrong size (?). Apparently there are different sizes on different boxes. As soon as I find the right rubber boot, I'm ready to test mine as well. |

Tried again this morning, left the house @ 7:45am and got to work @ 8:00am
Outside temp: 58 degrees The highest the IAT got was 64 degrees going 23 mph behind a van for about 1/2 mile. Engine temp never got higher than 180 degrees the whole way and when it reached it I was behind the van. Intake temp stayed @ 61 degrees for the whole time before. At the red light for about 3 min it was right at 61 degrees. I'm very proud of fords design of the air box;sfus |

I haven't changed it yet. I am gong to test with the stock airbox and a K&N against the JL box. Once I have done that, I'll test the colder thermostat, then probably install a JDM heat exchanger and test that...
Sorry it's taking me so long, it's taken a while to round up all the parts that my dumb arse got rid of... Ken |

OKay, I have come to the conclusion that a RAM AIR setup is not good. While it may make the air temps drop rapidly when moving it also seems to mess with the MASS Air sensor, the truck seems to hesitate. I take the kit off it runs fine.
I want to look into the PSP fastair system. Anyone have one? |

Tested again this morning, took the ram air off and just ran the hole in the bottom of the box, truck runs strong and has no hesitation.
NOTE: This test was to work this morning, 15minutes, about 6miles, truck was cold when tests were done. Coolant temp:174 degrees (Never got higher) IAT:64 degrees (Never got higher) Outside temp: 61 Degrees |
