Exclamation New expanded Ford Recall

The recall involves vehicles fueled by gasoline or natural gas and equipped with speed control, including the 1994-2002 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 F-Super Duty trucks, 2000-2002 Excursion SUVs, 1994-1996 Econoline vans and 1996-2002 E-450 vans, and 1998 Explorers and Mountaineers. The recall does not involve similar vehicles fueled by diesel.

I thought I may post this here, it looks like this came up again. The 2003-2004 Lightning is on the list, I am not sure if the HD would have its own listing or if it would fall under the regular F-150.

Can anyone explain to me what the actual issue is and how it can be avoided? Because I am leaving on a road trip tomorrow and will want to use the cruise control.

1. orange rubber diaphragm gets old/brittle/cracked (see link to pic below)
2. brake fluid leaks and comes in contact with "hot/always on" cc switch
3. fluid+juice = fire

FIX = new harness and new "diaphragm"

kromie covered it, although i'm getting a red x for the pic

anyway, if you havent done the recall last time it came around, in the mean time you can just unplug that wire harness off the end of the master cylinder and it will be okay til you get the recall fix. the cruise control wont work in the mean time but the brakes will be fine. i have heard its only when the truck is off when the issue arrises, so some guys have plugged it in for driving then unplugged it when they stopped the truck back when ford was working on the recall and just told owners to unplug the switch for the time being

Does the recall involve the cruise control ? My 02 HD cc stopped working about 3 weeks ago and the cruise light blinks intermittently. I have double checked all my lights are working, on some vehicles if a rear light blows out the cc will be disabled.

How can I tell if the truck that I bought has already had the recall work done or not?

Dealer should have info on-file if done at a dealer. Otherwise, the replacement CC switch is larger and black in color than the original smaller orange colored one. The replacement switch will also have a short (about 3") plug-end adapter umbilical attached to it that "marries" the replacement switch to the original wire harness umbilical.

There was a recall a couple of years ago on cruise control for several years Ford vehicles. The fix was a in line fuse added to the system.

I had the in line fuse added and then a few months later the area where the sensor plugged in started to leak so I took it back and they replace the part.

This recall has also included motorhomes with the Ford V10. We got a recall notice on ours.
