JL Audio 500/1 Warranty Info Wanted!

Well... my 500/1 bit the dust after a year and a half. It has a severe voltage drop and cuts in and out.

The dealer I bought them from says there is only a one year warranty.

I thought it was 3 years if authorized dealer does the install. Is that correct?

Also... If I send it in under warranty... it will cost $150 and take 6 to 8 weeks for repair. Anyone know of a faster way?

WARRANTY TERMS: MOBILE AUDIO PRODUCTS
(effective October 26, 2007)
These terms supercede all prior published warranty terms

JL Audio products are warrantied against defects in materials and workmanship for the following terms:

Subwoofer Drivers: One (1) Year
Evolution™ Speaker Systems: One (1) Year
Enclosed Subwoofer Systems (incl. Stealthbox™): Two (2) Years
Electronics: Two (2) Years

Called the dealer about my finding on JL's web site... Now they are changing their tune... sorta.

They are still not sure if JL will cover the repair because I didn't have them install the amps until a few weeks after I purchased them. WTF?

I guess I will call JL tomorrow.

I just mounted them. I didn't want any holes drilled in my back wall. They ran the wires and tuned them.

So we will see...

here is what MY store policy was when i worked for Sound Adivce (or Tweeter). For the first year of a customer having a JL ELECTRONIC product I would swap it out for them. Give them a new amp and take the other back and send it to JL. After a year I would tell the customer it has to be sent to JL. If i had someone come to me multiple times in the first year i would tell them it would have to be sent to jl just to teach them a lesson. that when i set an amp its not for them to d ick with!

And yes the AMP has a two year warranty from JL Audio. Just have to either go to that shop and say You want it to be sent to JL for warranty work. Or call jl audio @ 19544431100 Press 5 and then 1 for customer service. either lisa or two other ladies will answer (maria i think and another one ) and tell them you need an RA form (have a fax number and receipt of sale ready, also make sure the recept says something about install on it or you may be screwed on the two year warrenty). Dont take no for an answer here. They will try to convice you to go through the authorized shop. Tell them You bought your amp from a authorized dealer and they are not cooperating with you and you would like to deal with them directly.

You will only have the pay the $150 to fix it if it is out of warranty. All you should have to pay is for the ride there. As far as time yea it CAN take that long but here lately JL has been quicker then your first time for me.
4 weeks max..depending on how close to AZ you are because that is where the amp is going!

can anyone else see i have had to do this before?

oh wait....so they DID or DIDNT install them?

like i said if it is installed by a authrized dealer you get 2 years

if not you only have 1 year and will have to pay the 150 to have it refurbished.

Spoke with Lisa this morning... thanks jvillefinest.

It is 2 years on the warranty and it DOES NOT need to be dealer installed.

Now problem number 2...

The 500/1 is discontinued (It has been replaced by 500/1v2) and parts can take some time to obtain.

Do you think they should replace it with the new version or should I wait for the repair?

Lisa is the best...easiest to understand too.

go for the new version if it is going to take ALOT of time. I just sent in a 300/2v1 and they had it back in just a two weeks. Unless you have other v1 amps. then wait so everything can match

different parts maybe...but there shouldnt be ALOT of difference in the v2 vs v1. just outter differences from what i have gathered.

I am sending the 500/1 to them for repair/replacement under warranty.

Lisa agreed to send me the new version if it would take awhile to repair.

She also agreed to let me send in my 300/4 and trade up to the v2 so my amps will match.
