I don't think the keypad on the door has batteries. It is hard-wired into the truck. I would start by checking the fuses maybe? IF you press the last two nubers down together at the same time does it lock the doors? If so maybe the code you are using was lost -- I believe the factory code is printed on a little box under the dash.

BTW Tim, welcome to the club!

The keypad crapped out on my "03.... Symptoms were, it wouldn't accept the "open" code and only very occassionally it would "lock" and that's about it.
After checking everything else I went down to the Ford dealer, dropped a hundred bucks for a new keypad and harness (its one piece) and then went back home, popped the door panel off and swapped out the keypad.

Works as good as new now.....

No idea what it cost from Ford - but here's one on Ebay:

Never mind - that was aftermarket...

I did a lookup and it says for a 04 keyless pad it's about $110 for retail at Ford. Not sure if you need anything else with it so check to make sure.
