Questions for you audio gurus
My truck has an input for an auxillary source, for the radio. I wanted to see if anyone knew whether I could copy numerous songs on a flash drive and somehow convert that to an auxilary end to plug into my unit. The flash drive has a USB end. If you know please let me know. Thanks!

There a few different AUX input adapters available for our trucks. I haven't seen one yet though that will interface directly with a USB flash drive. Pioneer has one out - but of course that only works when connected to one of their headunits! There are many IPOD interface adapters out there. Here's one to look at:
* PERIPHERAL PXAMG + HDRT HD RADIO AND IPOD CONTROL ISIMPLE MULTIMEDIA GATEWAY (FORD VERSION)*::*OEM COMPATIBLE ADD ON HD RADIO*::*OEM Factory Aux Ipod Adapters & Changers*::*AUTOTOYS Chck out the YouTube videos that demonstrate the product! |

Like they said that will not work. you will need an ipod or something along those lines. my pioneer radio that i installed in my truck a few months ago has a usb input on it, and I use a cheap 2gb usb flash drive on mine and love it! IMO if you want to go that route you will have to get a head unit with a usb input.

no there is no way to make that work with a stock head unit. there is no way to control it, and then no way to connect it.
like said before, if you were to get a mp3 player with a headphone jack you would be able to make that work, just by using a headphone to headphone jack and plug that in.

It appears that there are some microsft SYNC headunits that are capable of playing unprotected music directly off a USB flash drive.
I once asked my local Ford dealership what it would take to add SYNC to my truck and they just stared at me with a blank look. I guess that answered my question. I know the Ford Edge has the capability, but I'm unshure exactly what headunit it is. Here's the discussion: SYNC and USB Flash Drive - Ford Edge Forum |

the new ford sync system looks amazing from what i have been reading. but yea you are going to have that look from ford dealerships for a long time if not forever! it will probably remain something that if its not installed from the factory, there is NO ONE that is going to know how to work on it, because its so advanced and interwoven into the cars electronics system. so good luck on that!
