To be a legal helmet, somewhere on the inside there will be one of the tags shown below. The SA is fire retardant, where the M is not. Some tracks do not check for the labels...it varies from track to track. SA= For Use in Competitive Automotive Sports The SA95 is good only through 2006 ![]() The SA2000 is good through 2011 ![]() The SA2005 is good through 2016 ![]() M=For Use in Motorcycling and Other Motorsports The M95 is good only through 2006 ![]() The M2000 is good through 2011 ![]() The M2000 is good through 2016 ![]() |

This is the typical rule of thumb. Helmet: SN 90 or newer or SFI 31.1, 31.2, 41.1 or 41.2 mandatory for all drivers running 13.99 or quicker in the ¼ or 8.59 or quicker 1/8 mile. Drivers of open bodied, supercharged front-engine cars must use a helmet meeting SN 90 or newer or SFI 31.1 or 31.2 specs. Drivers of any open bodied cars wearing an “open face” helmet must wear protective goggles.

Yes, unless she is running Pro Truck or faster than 11.50, we let Snell M2000 and up run at LightningFest 5 (2007).
