VVME HID Foglight Install question
Anyone installed these or other brand HID kits in their foglights? The bulb does not plug into the factory connector to lock the bulb into place like the headlight ones did. I'm guess you have to cut up your factory foglight thingy? Anyone did this? Anyone have any guesses on best way to fix the bulb into the foglight housing?
Thanks for any help. |

IIRC, you order the correct bulb to fit w/no mod... H1, H2, H3, it depends on your model year. Or you can get Roush fogs for a H10 plug and play.

I got it. I had to do some modification to the factory adapter that the factory bulb plugs into. I basically made it an adapter for the HID bulb and siliconed and epoxied it together. Works good.

Will not work without modification unless you get the Roush fogs.

To make a long story short the HID bulb in the stock fog housing will need to be secure by silicone or other means. You could also drill out the back of the stock adapter that the stock bulb fits into and secure the HID bulb to the adapter with silicone where the stock bulbs fits with the wires going out the back of the drilled out adapter. In both cases modification will need to be done and for me it was just easier to install the Roush fogs and get the correct HID bulb and make them plug and play.

The problem is the way the H1 bulb standard or HID on most other vehicles is secured inplace. The H1 on almost every other vehicle is held inplace by clips that secure the lamp from the back of the housing. Ford decided to forgo this method and make a adpater that twists into the foglight housing instead of secured from the back. So if you get a HID kit with the H1 bulb you have no way of securing the base of that bulb to the housing since you can't just swist it in without using silicone, JB weld or the like to attach and secure the HID lamp to the housing.
If I still have the pics of exactly what Im talking about I'll load them up to show you why it's impossible without modifiction to the housing or bulb using the stock fog light. One more option but it requires a dremmel and time is to get a 9145 HID bulb/base and file down the 3prongs about 1/2 mm and bevel the edges of the prongs so that it will twist correctly and fit properly. You gotta be precise or the gasket will not seat in the housing correctly. Tazz Last edited by Tazz; 04-15-2007 at 11:00 PM. |
