Since the recent purchase of the new steel hood ,,,well I have to hold it up. The stock struts aren't strong enough to hold it. Has someone had to replace these and have a part number or company for me ,,,Please??

The hood I have on my Lightning is a steel hood and it came with regular f150 hood struts. The regular f150s have heavier hoods than the HDs and Ls. Go to the ol' pick-a-part type junk yards and buy some from there......cheap. I will try to get you a part number.
BTW.....they work great and do not struggle to get the hood up and hold it there. |

all F-150 hoods are aluminum. HD/L/Regular 'ol F-150/expy. it may be that they are newer that they'll hold a fiberglass or steel hood up better, but they are all aluminum, and weigh around 22 lbs.
the stock struts are good enough to hold up most aftermarket fiberglass hoods, which weigh around 40 lbs. the stock hood pretty much flies up when you open it, where the fiberglass ones need to be lifted all the way open, but they stay open with the stock struts. the steel hoods are around 50-55 lbs and reflexxons who is a big steel hood company ships their hoods with bigger thicker struts tos wap out. the chikenears billet covers wont fit over them, but if you ahve a steel hood its pretty much the way to go if you want your hood to stay up so i'd give reflexxons a buzz and order a set of their struts as for the shaker hood...definately fiberglass with internal baffling/chanels to route the air through the shaker and over the airbox. 100% functional! |
