Man, thanks, Venom. What a great How-to!! Now what about us who have had our trucks a while and have not done this. Think we're okay just adding this nice little feature or is the damage already done?
Mine's an 02 with 11k miles on it so not as bad as some but I don't know. Thanks again!! BTW, I agree that Lowe's sucks. We have both Home Depot and Lowes in our town and every time I go to Lowes they don't have everything I need and I end up back at Home Depot. You'd think I'd learned my lesson by now. |

Does anyone have the sku# and not the part number of the amflo oil seperator they got from Lowe's? The people at Lowe's here need the sku# to find out if they have it or if they can order one for me.
Thanks

Lowes didnt have it but Home Depot did - for $27. I went to Northern equipment and they have filters with 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" for $15 so you can just buy which ever one you can find the fittings for. In my case, I bought the 1/4" NPT version and used standard air hose fittings - dirt cheap. WHole job was done for $19 in 5 min.

Anyone have any alternate part numbers other than the amflo piece? - I've checked Home Depot and Lowes and they've both looked at me like I was crazy. Finally - at Lowes - they had some of the Campbell Hausfeld units... but they all looked like water separators and not suitable for oil.
Thanks in advance... |

airtroop, the filters will remove any liquid afaik - I never saw any filter that said "oil separator" on it. I bought a replacement filter for a commercial sized air compressor outfit at Northern Equipment for $15 and it works fine. I would guess any large store that sells commercial grade air compressors, tools, etc would have them. The Lowes guys looked at me like I was an alien, too, but Home Depot had filters for $27.
Also, I never found an elbow fitting for the filter inlet, so I used straight fittings on the filter and made a horizontal "U" out of the inlet hose and hooked it to the hose coming out of the PCV valve with a 3/8" elbow. If that sounds confusing, I'll try to take a pic this afternoon. /Phil

oil sep
some of those "filters",say they are not suitable for oil.
also, some can withstand only up to a certain temp. it appears you can buy a metal collection canister, but not of the shelf at home depot or lowes. matt

Do a quick search and you'll find all the detailed info you could want.
Basically Ford screwed up, when you're on the gas and making boost, then let off it creates a huge vaccuum and sucks oil through the PCV valve. All the supercharged Ford trucks do it, dunno about the cobras tho. |

"UPDATE"
Most of the parts are in, and I will try to start building then ASAP. Work is very busy, and I would rather not build them with too many distractions. I Will possibly go to work this weekend for some piece and quiet. "HOWEVER" It has been raining for over a week here. MY business partner just purchased a new Ducati, Weather permitting, we may blow off some steam and make a power ride this weekend to stretch these bikes out a little and relieve some stress. Just being honest. Ill keep in touch,. Remember, I'm taking deposits and they are just about sold out. I obviously will make more if needed. Thanks Vince |
