I run 15 -18 lbs (hot) on my import and it has the 265 45. others were never going that low but then again I got 1.78 60ft with street tires and video to boot!I believe around 20lbs would be a start plus take measure after a run cause you do heat them up and it changes(increases).

hey guys i have a question about removing the tailgate for the track.. I did a brief search but didn't find anything. I have heard alot of people say different things either leave tailgate up or put it down or take if off...
well what works the best?? I also have a soft bed cover so no weight there really. |

if you have a soft bedcover without a doubt leave the tailgate up. It's debatable whether to leave it down or up without a cover. The aerodynamics of a truck with the tailgate up create a wind pocket in the bed that makes it more aerodynamic at high speeds with it up, but at lower speeds it is a big drag wing till you hit that magical speed where it helps.
But with a soft cover leave it closed. If you do pull it off though, you'll save 55 lbs, and every 100 lbs is worth roughly 1/10th in the 1/4. Add a hitch (~40 lbs) and a spare (~65 lbs) and you've got around 150 lbs off the rear. Basically you just have to mess around with it and see what the truck likes. If you can get traction, pull some weight. If it starts to spin real bad and you can't offset it with tire presssure, etc. then add a little weight back on over the rear and it may help ya out. |
