Part of the problem with the temp sensor could be torquing too much but also the way the threaded post at least in the one I had which was made. The same company made both but a lower temp rating on the one I had and broke.
The threaded part of the post is of course round but under the black resin top the post turns to a half circle post. What does this do you may ask? Well as you apply torque on the nut to tighten you apply torque to the flat edge of the half circle post and puts stress on the black resin top of the sensor thus breaking the top part of the sensor.
Will post a pic if I still can find the old sensor to show what Im talking about.
Found the sensor but not the post but you can see what im talking about in the pic.

Don't think this was the case in my situation... unless it took a few years to fall apart.

Mark had a replacement sensor in my hand the next day.

Everything is working great.

Not saying that was your problem.
Just saying that the reason there is a issue at times with splitting when over tighten a bit is the way the sensor is designed.
Im very careful now to the point i used locktite on the nut this last time and put 2 nuts on there.
Is ther a better way to design the center piece maybe maybe not? I would think that the center screw piece could be a screw on type on the resin top with the center drilled the width of the 1/2 long center wire.

The only other place other than LFP that Ive found the sensor is JDM or a place called something like the fan man. JDM is priced at $35 plus $20 to ship which is a bit much and the fan man was still cheaper like $30 but the guy never got back with me when i checked with him on shipping.
Just checked and there $45 now at the fan man website.
By far LFP is the place to buy from since he will usually ship it fast and get it in 2 days.

I hear ya now... this sensor does look different from any of the others I saw at the auto part stores.

Thanks for the Loktite suggestion. After I put everything back together I had that little voice in the back of my head asking... will that nut and washer vibrate loose?
