you didn't get a ticket so be happy. we actually have a law against "breaking traction" here on base were i am a cop, i have written a few idiots for it over the years, but they were just being stupid. I have caught a few for dui/dwi cause they were doing stuff like that in there vehicles and they didn't speed either. he was probably just making sure you weren't drunk or high. i know us policeman can be hated sometimes, but he was just doing his job. (sorry, just don't want a fellow policeman to get bashed too much in here.)

Del, you surprise me, especially with that last coment. We don't make the laws...just get paid to uphold them (let alone that whole oath thing).
Besides, you'd be surprised how quick someone would be to call in and complain with a car # when someone spins out or something and they see you not do anything. Man...just re-read your post...wow, bro! |

Yep...that's a good portrayal Dbl G
). It's all good though...I try not to ever get too defensive about stuff. You are right, there are bad apples sometimes and besides, no one on the board should have to watch their tongues on my account. Everybody needs to vent a little and far be it from me to deny them that right. I guess it caught me off-gaurd coming from Del as I haven't ever seen that attitude from him before. No worries though, Del...I had to say something but it doesn't change my opinion of you. |

No gripes though...most of it is due to people's lack of understanding on how we do things or what's going on. It's hard for people to know without doing something like a rideout with an officer, though. One of the more common complaints we get are about an officer being parked in one spot "not doing anything". What people don't realize is that 99% of the time, the officer is finishing up a report. (We get no extra time to finish reports sitting at the station....they all have to be done during the shift). We could probably all do a better job of helping people to understand the job we do. ;b

I have edited this post after thinking about this topic..
First off, I'm sorry if I offended anyone, especially anyone in law enforcement, but this is a sensitive issue with me. Don't get me wrong, I think folks that enforce the law and are respectable are OK in my book. I guess I let my emotions get the best of me. I was not aware that a law existed specifically related to loss of traction. If that is the case here in NC. I guess I break the law everytime I take off faster than normal. But the town I lived in for 20 years had way too many bad apples in the bunch and no way short of a Rodney King video to get rid of them. Cases in point... - I was thrown in jail once as a teenager, accused of stealing a car battery 4 days prior, even though the whole week that I was supposedly doing the crime I was in the hospital sporting a 103 fever and sucking my dinner through an IV. Two days after getting out of the hospital, the cop shows up at my house, pulls me outta bed (still sick) and drags me down to the jail. After they found out that I had nothing to do with it. All they wanted to talk about was if my friends were selling dope. My mom had to threaten a law suit just to get me outta jail since I was a minor and had no rights (so I was told at the time). No apology given whatsoever. - Another incident was my wife getting dragged outta her car and made to do a drunk driver test. This happened 5 minutes after she had closed up the store (which was about 3 miles from where she was stopped) where she was the assistant manager. Even the store manager stopped to find out what was wrong and the cop told him they had a suspected drunk driver. He told them she had just left working for 12 straight hours. Not to mention that she will drink about once every leap year and never more than 1 beer. Seeing my wife arrive home in tears did not make me happy. No apology given whatsoever. - I, along with several of my friends (also pilots) and flight instructor, were once detained for doing flight training at night (which is an FAA requirement). A local city cop decided that we must have been running drugs. Why else would we be flying at night, circling the airport doing touch and goes. Before this one was over, there were no less than 10 cops at the airport. Blue lights all over the place. After putting everyone in hand-cuffs and searching the vehicles and aircraft only to find nothing. They finally decided we were not drug runners. No apology given whatsoever. So you see, I have an inherent distrust of law enforcement in some areas of the country. Especially South Carolina! I was a first responder and level B Haz-Mat technician for 10 years. I've met alot of great folks that were cops and firemen in the field and I've had them watching my back when it counted most. I've just been damaged by some of the things that have happened to me and my family in the past so I'm always suspicious of the law. P.S. Just to clarify. Since I moved from SC almost 10 years ago. I have had zero incidents with law enforcement and I support my local sheriffs department and rescue squard with yearly donations. -Del |

Just a note. I spent 10 years in the military and was clean cut the whole time I lived in SC. I don't know how I attracted the cops attention so much. The examples I listed above were just the worst. I've had plenty more then that. All in the little town in SC.
