Going to Myrtle Beach Bike Week, BEWARE.....

For anyone that is going to the last official Bike Week in Myrtle this week, beware. If you dont already know, the City of MB has passed a series of laws/ordinances banning all Bike Weeks in May (Harley week and Atlantic (black) Bike week).

The local officials have passed these just in time for Fall Myrtle Bike week. Not all will take imediately, but there are some that will and we have been told that the City Police will be inforcing the new laws heavily! Some of the BS is a helmet law only in the City(SC is a no helmet state), if your bike is louder than 87db at idle you will be towed on the spot.

Now I cant wait for the same people that are b****ing about all of the bikes that roll into town and spend MILLIONS of $$$$ into their economy to start b****ing that their taxes are going up or that city workers need to be laid off because the $$$$ isn't there anymore.

Here is the link listing all of the BS that was passed:

City of Myrtle Beach - New Ordinances .

To anyone here that is a City of MB official (I doubt there is since no one here would pass stupid bills like this), this is what I have to say:!!!!!!!!

They have been having alot of problems with Atlantic week with hotels and resturants getting trashed. So since the NAACP sued them and won they want to ban ALL motorcycles from that area. Hope the 80 year old golfers can pick up the slack to the local economy! If not, OH WELL the city is bringing this on themselves!

Exactly! And being a vendor there, I hope we are not standing around like the Maytag repair man! I will be hoppin mad if they drive everyone out of the City so that no one will want to come there. We have to spend stupid money to be there between lot rents, salaries, diesel, hotel rooms, etc. And for them to treat people who are helping pay their salaries this way, is absolutly stupid! I cant wait for them to try and say that they made a mistake and say Welcome back bikers! Hope everyone gives them to kiss off!

I got thinkin' about the notion of DB's ... how close to the exhaust pipe do they measure the sound in order to issue a citation?!!!

[edit: Been there once to play golf. Glad I will never be there again.]

It really amazes me how local politicians react with a knee jerk to issues. If they were a little sharper in n.c. instead of banning bike week it should be regulated with permits. Ticket the people who don't wear helmets or meet the db requirements. But to ban bike week? I would hope the AMA is on top of this to stop it from being a trend.

Any politicians' actions ... local or otherwise ... don't amaze anymore! I would never ride without a helmet anyway. If they ticket for decibel level of >74 at the back of bike? ... every H-D (including stock muffs) would get ticketed. This is nuts for this community to "cut off their nose to spite their face"!

I guess that that is gonna save me a sh*tpot full of money, I've been to the spring and fall rallies for the last 5 years straight and dumped enough money into the M.B. economy to have bought a couple of new bikes. Lets see,,a weeks worth of rooms at the Sheraton, food gas, bar tabs at the Masters, hookers, wasting money in the stores/shops. Panama City has one at about the same time as M.B., I guess I'll try theirs.

PC is usually a week before each Myrtle Rally. As one of my dealers calls it "The Redneck Riveria". I have a few dealers that go to it and it has been getting bigger each time.

This fall rally was a joke. They have just about killed it. Once peole that have been to this report home, the Spring will be dead too. The only good part of our trip was that Daytona was BOOMIN! A ton of people, not all spending money, but its a good start. Oh ya the other good part of the trip was that I traded both my 07 Road Glide and my 06 SE V-Rod in Daytona for a 09 SE Road Glide. WOW what a difference! Real sweet riding bike compaired to the others.

This is actually a good idea. The city doesn't NEED the rallies for economical gains. They make plenty without the bikes. The bike weeks down there are a joke anyway. I am glad to see that they are no longer having the rallies. I was down there on a golf weekend during one of the rallies and having that many bikes in a small area was annoying. Looks like my next memorial weekend golf trip won't be interrupted by the bikes.

Your kidding, right? Memorial Day week is the one that the city doesn't want. They just didnt want to get sued by the NAACP again. The other two weeks bring in MILLIONS of $$$ to that economy, from bikers. Your right on one thing, maybe the city doesn't need the revenue, but the local business owners certainly do and are pissed about what the city is doing. And I guess the hundreds of lawsuits from the local business owner against the city means the these people need that money from the two HARLEY Bike weeks. The city is just to stupid to enforce the laws that they already have in place. All of the assinine laws that were just passed are covered and just need to be enforced.

Now you and the few other 90 year old golfers can make up all of that revenue for that week. Let me know how you make out with that. I'm sure the local business's will be thankful that their are a few warm bodies there.
