Another thread of why I hate Auto Parts Clerks

So I go into Auto Zone today to pick up some stuff

--high temp rtv, radiator flush, and some gatorback belts

Go to the counter and tell the guy I want 2 gatorback belts 4080690 & 4080695

He goes in the back, looks around...comes out from the back, looks around front behind the counter....then comes over to me and looks on the computer and proceeds to tell me...

"We don't carry Gatorback Belts anymore, how about..."

I stop him right there and ask him, why the hell did he go in the back looking for a belt that you don't carry anymore and why didn't you tell me this when I asked you for the belt?

He says "I was looking for the same size belt in the new product we carry. Since all belts are the same, it doesn't matter which one you get."

So I put the RTV & Radiator Flush on the counter and say "no thank you"

He asks me "Don't you want this anymore?"

I say "No, since everything is the same anyways and it doesn't matter which ones I get or where I get them from."

Why do they have to hire these stupid people at these stores??!! If I come in and ask for something specific, then I want that exact product!!! If I came in and said get me whatever belt is 8 rib in both 69 & 69.5 length, then I don't give a sh.it who makes it.

Hell, most morons behind the counter don't know how to act when confronted by an educated consumer. I hate asking about specs when I know the correct answers and get nothing intelligent in return. The same goes for auto/motorcycle salesmen. They can sure ruin your day!

It is always tht way at autozone, I have always had good luck with oriellys autoparts. I think they have an actuall test or something for employment. Also the guys at Oriely are usually older guys who seem to be educated, Infact the one here In Tacome, 4 of the guys Have ASE Patches that they wear. They could be faking, But I doubt it. See if there is one in your area

Parts stores don't pay squat. ASE patch just means someone is book smart and can take a test. Does not make up for hands on experience.

I deal with that sh*t every day at my shop, I'm now connected right into Napa's data base.

Right, But I am a little more inclined to take information from a man with an ase patch on his are than a kid with the year he graduates high school. Napa here sucks balls, The worst by far, Id go to wal-mart first, Thats just here though. Either way, He is right,If I walk in and ask for a specific brand, Thats what I want.

My experience with Pep Boys was a few years back when I saw they were having a sale on Hankook Tires. I asked the guy if they had the Ventus ST size 295/45/20. He tells me they don't make that size. I told him yes they do. He tells me that the correct size for my truck is 275/45/20. I told him I know but I want 295/45/20. He tells me I'm wrong and there is no such size. I played dumb and asked him to go take a look at my truck to see what size is on the tire. When he comes back in he has this stupid look on his face when he realizes I had the exact tire I was asking for on my truck. Then he makes up some excuse as to why he couldn't find it on his computer. I wasn't going to buy them from Pep Boys but just use the price they gave me to take it to another shop to match it. Maybe he didn't know that the size existed but if he asked me ahead of time how I came up with that size instead of telling me they just don't exist I would've been fine.

It never changes...everywhere you go...it's the same.

I always have problem because most of them only work by the book, I mean, computer screen, so I ask for part like TR6's...they ask me make and model If then you ask...I want NGK 4177, then there's no hasle.

BTW Oki...they don't "Higher" them...that would be a compliment...they "Hire" them.

I dislike it when auto parts clerks say: "Hi, may I help you?".

Well, I sell parts, so now I know where I stand.

You should here it from my side, people who own repair shops that dont even know what kind of car they are working on or the difference in an automatic or standard transmission.
