Arrow New guy from Chicago area!

Hello F150 owners! I am new to this forum, but not so new to car forums in general. I am a major car enthusiast, and my current vehicle is what has inspired me to always find a forum for any vehicle that I may be interested in. So naturally I had to sign up over here!

A little background about myself---I currently own a 2007 Sublime Dodge Charger Daytona that I have done..... a few things to, hahaha. In other words, Im not sure if there is anything stock left on it. While the car is A LOT of fun, I think it is time for me to get back into the truck game a little bit (but the Charger wont be going anywhere any time soon....). Prior to my Charger I owned a '99 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with a 4" lift and 35" tires. The F150 would not be quite the "off-road" oriented vehicle this time around, but I have a few ideas in mind for it....

Here's a few pictures of my Charger:

2.8L Kenne Bell Supercharger on top of my 6.5L stroker.... Nicknamed the "HULK"

WHY I AM HERE

I am currently in the market for a new vehicle and like I said, I would like to get back into a truck. As of right now, I am considering three different vehicles.... all of them are American-made, and each one is from one of the three big automakers. As far as Ford goes, I am specifically considering the 2010 F150 Harley Davidson edition. I signed up on F150forums but heard about the NHTOC over there so I figured I should check it out..... glad I did, this site seems to be exactly what I am looking for!

I absolutely love this truck, no two ways about it. The interior is what really sold me on it. I know the top-of-the-line F150s are nice too..... but they just dont stand out like the HD edition does. I need something that can handle the weather here in Chicago all year round, be daily driven, yet look great on the street as well. Also, the fact that I can tow with it is really nice too, because I would like to stop driving the Charger cross-country to shows and events.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to talking with more people on this site about one of the vehicles that is at the top of my list of consideration. I would love to learn some more about what to look for when buying one of these trucks, things to stay away from, must-have options, etc. etc. Looking forward to meeting and talking with new people as well!

-Pat

Welcome to the nhtoc.

Majority of the members here favor the 2002-2003 Gen 2's but I am sure you will find all the info you are looking for here.

There is a specific section that includes the GEN 3 HD's, so you can see what members here already have that truck to specifically ask.

Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully I will be going to negotiate for one this weekend. These things are surprisingly tough to locate at local dealers on the internet. A lot of them do not have "Harley Davidson" designated in the listing on each of the dealrship's sites, and the "locate" feature through Ford's site has proven to be pathetic at best.

All the ones I have found so far have been purely through my own digging through local dealers, which has been rather tedious.

I see that the favorite around here tends to be the Gen 2 trucks, and I can respect that. I love those trucks as well..... they are truly the ones that turned me on to them in the first place. However, I am not really in the market for a used truck at all, so I am out here looking for a 2010. While I prefer the body styling of the Gen2's, the interior and wheels of the 2010 model are really what sold me on it. I havent even sat in one yet and Im already in love with the interior, hahaha.

I already have a few mods in mind to get started on right off the bat. The black plastic insert in the lower valance needs to go ASAP. Would probably be looking to replace that and the upper main grille with a straight billet design (and probably ditch the Ford emblem in the center depending on the new grille design). Any recommendations for which grille to buy?

Not sure if I want to do a 2"/4" drop, or just level out the front with the back.... I know that is two totally different directions to go, so Im gonna wait that one out.

Lastly, I will definitely be completely re-doing the sound system in this truck. It will be tough for me to design a powerful sound system in a truck where space for boxes/amps is at a premium (havent had to do this since I had my Jeep...), but Im looking forward to the challenge!

Welcome to the site. Randy can defintely hook you up on a new truck, when I was looking to upgrade from my 02 he was going to have it shipped directly to my local dealer. But I decided to keep the 02 for a couple more years, but that 2010 is really starting to pull on my strings.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but, that is a nice dodge, looks like you replaced everything so maybe its not really a dodge any more.

Thanks for the link.... I might try and give him a shout before I head down to a dealer that is about 45-60 minutes south of me. They have three on the lot right now and they are all fully loaded. Im thinking one of them has my name on it if we can agree on a price.

I will definitely give him a shout tonight and see what exactly he can work out though!

Thanks for further recommending this.... Definitely goign to get into contact with him.

And thanks for the comment about my Charger. I assure you, even though a lot has been replaced, it's still all HEMI underneath there. The LX platform is truly great stuff, even if you might be a Ford guy at heart. Get this---I was brought up a Chevy guy, learned to LOVE the new Mopars, now Im looking at a Ford truck. What kind of twisted sins did I commit in a past life? LOL.

Thanks for the advice though, fellas!

I did read about that..... There are a couple problems with it though.

1) Im a semi-impatient guy, lol. Im fixin for an HD truck real bad, so Im not sure if I can wait.

2) When those things do come out, they will not be so willing to deal on them. Thats how it goes with any brand new model out there that just came out. I figure if anything, I can use this new engine factor as a bargaining chip for a 5.4 that is still on the lot at a dealer.... and it's now August, going on September, so hopefully they want to wheel and deal. The sticker price on these bad boys is definitely up there, but they seem willing to deal on them so Im going to give it a shot.

3) If the horsepower of the 5.4 isnt enough for me down the road, then Im not afraid to slap a blower on it in order to surpass any of the new 6.2s out there. Hell, I bought a Charger RT instead of an SRT and I built the thing up so much that only a handful of worked SRTs can even keep up with me now! ;)

4) The 5.4 seems to have a solid grounding for being a decent powerplant. Solid aftermarket following, and it gets the job done. I plan to daily drive this truck and for the most part, want to see about as good of mileage as I can out of a pickup in city driving. But we'll see.... Not sure which route I am going to go with this truck just yet.

In short, I had thought about waiting for the 2011, but rather than spend the extra money on it, I figured I would save by buying a 2010 that hasnt sold yet and really bargain for it. Thanks for the heads up though!
