    Focal 165k Separates

Does anybody have any experience with Focal 165k separates? I have a friend who is selling a set and I need to replace my MB Quart PSD 216's. I thought about buying a set of PCE 216's, but wanted to get some opinions first.

    Thanks

Rob - can you get the tweeter holders and covers for the Utopia tweeters? It looks like I need to contact Focal directly per dealers around here :-(

I'm going to put the 165W (tweeters and mids) in the front and the 165K (mids) in the rear. So I'd need the mounting stuff for the Utopia tweets.

As long as you like the tweeter you'll like Focals. Car-Toys has them now if you have one in your area.

I can not stress enough to stay away from online vendors for the Focal speakers. I went through one and it took me 4.5 months to get my money back. Just go through an authorized focal dealer. David's car in Baton Rouge is a great place to go through. I got my Eutopia 165w3's from Clay there and he definately did me right. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. He has no problem shipping them out to you. He even expedited my shipping at no extra cost. Granted the speakers were $1100 a set, so I am sure that a few extra bucks in shipping doesn't really matter to them. You will absolutely love the Focals.

josh does this mean you need aluminum plates for the 6.5" in the door for the front? what about the back?

I am back in St. Louis all next week cranking out plates & painting a car.

Cool , I made mine from MDF . I need to add some space so the magnet did not hit the glass . I have another set of door panels that I am shaving the speaker opening and recovering the panel in black leather . I need to figure out a cool design for kick pods.

thickness of material required to get the rigidity... especially in the rear doors where there is ZERO clearace in front of or behind the speaker.

it would require a 3/4" MDF plate to get the rigidity of a 1/4" aluminum plate (I use 3/16" plate most the time for overkill). MDF cannot be removed, reinstalled, removed etc very often before it starts to chip & warp. Once mdf gets wet (even just water vapor trapped by the vapor barrier) it gets mushy & you loose the rigidity...

Lastly.. most importantly.. I am anal retentive & aluminum is just the right way to do it.. lol ....

I have been semi-quietly making them for everyone who needs them for basically the cost of materials & a little time. I have access to just about any speaker brand's mounting hole diam & such specs.. I have a jig set up on my drill press.. knock them out & go...

PM me if you need some..
