    First Mods???????

Just got my truck a couple of days ago. Completly stock 2002 HD #8194!
I LOVE IT! "BUT" I have champange taste on a beer budget! LOL What would you guys recomend as my first mods that arent goin to break my bank?
I knoe the first thing I have to do is bring that "stink bug" rear end down to level!!! Why the hell did ford do that?????
Well hope you guys can help out with some advice. I'm a pretty avid mechanic/parts replacer so most mods will not be hard in my garage and I work at a Ford dealership.
    Thanks for your time............LATERZ, CHRGDHD

First mod i'd do is loose the Goodyears, get L spec Bilstein shocks and a FTVB. Those will add handling and clean up your shifts. 6# lower pulley and SCT/Predator tuner and a good dyno tune will wake it up very nicely. Add a panhard and it makes it handle like a go-kart

all the suspension mods are nice to get the truck to a predictable level before adding the power...

    panhard bout 250.00
    rear sway bout 150.00
    shocks bout 250.00
drop shackels bout 75.00 if you go more than a 2 inch shackle drop in rear then shock extenders would be recommended bout 75.00
FTVB and 4x4 pan bout 250.00 plus 6/-7 qts of mercron III bout 20.oo

then you can get into the power
6lb lower and belt bout 250.00
    ngktr6 plugs bout 20.00
pred/xcal II bout 200-400.00 depends on new or used
    tune bout 300.00

of course frugal shopping for used parts will bring the totals down for money out

One of the 1st mods I did and it added 100hp was to get rid of those dealer plate frames...

But seriously, first mods I did that didn't break the bank was an air filter kit and the valve body... Second was the drop shackles. Everything else is pretty much summed up by Fep and Stew... get the 6lb and you'll be grinning

I would also suggest an oil seperator if you don't already have one.

I would do this. I would take those Free '02 Heads that are sitting in Brits shed. Have them ported, polished, new cams, stronger springs, ceramic coated, thread inserts. Then tear your top end down. Clean out the intercooler, cooling system, etc... Then sell your stock heads. Probably do the whole project for $350 and gain 40-50 Hp.
