I guess I'm a little late on this thread too. It sounds like you have solved some of your trouble. I had BellTech shackles on mine before I dropped it down more to a 2/4.

I used a DJM 2/4 kit that had a 2" front spring, with shackles and hanger for the rear. After I installed the hanger kit, I had to put the DJM shackles on. The BellTech shackle would not allow me to raise it up a notch to prevent it from bottoming out. The DJM shackle did the trick.

Mine will bottom out still, but it takes quit a bit to do it. I think the stock rear spring is too soft. 2002harley probably has the best solution using the F-250 overload spring. I may try dropping mine down again, and add an extra leaf, without a C-notch.

    Good luck with it...

Are you talking about the overload spring that goes on top of the springs? If so, I have 2 of them with only 800 miles on them? Who's looking to buy a pair? ;w

I do not know what over load springs were used on his truck, but they were not from an F250. I just measured the over load springs and they are 3 inches wide. The F150 is just 2 1/2 inches wide, so this will not work. Maybe they are the Hellwig over load clamp on springs???

sorry it took a while to get back to you richo. my overload leaf measures 2 1/2" wide by approx. 30" long, and it's about 1/2" thick at the point under the u-bolts. this overload leaf fits under the rest of the leafs, between the bottom leaf and the top plate on the axle. at one of the ends (rear) there is a urethane 1" tall square bump stop which comes in contact with the rest of the leafs when i hit a large bump. it looks like you can change this (it bolts on) to a taller one if you want the overload leaf to "work" quicker. the lowering kit that i have is from so-cal speed-shop and the person that installed it said it was from an f250.......i guess he was wrong, it looks like it comes with the lowering kit. another thing you guys who are lowering the rear 4" might want to try is shock extenders, they will help get the shock back to its original (more up-right) position. this will help the shock work more efficient and you can use a stock length shock such as a koni.

I would really like to know exactly what kit that is? I have never seen any of the kits with an overload like that. I seems like that would solve a lot of our problems with a 4" rear drop.

If you can find out what brand it is, I would really appreciate it...

    Thanks,
I looked at their kit when I lowered mine. I didn't remember it coming with the overload spring. I really think that is the answer to my problem.
The stock HD rear spring is too soft. I had considered replacing it with the Hotchkis spring, and removing the hanger kit. I think this overload will solve all of that for less money.

I'm curious about the shock extenders too. The shop where I had mine done told me they don't make bolt on shock extenders, they were all weld on. I see that is not true.

OK, one more question. What sway brand is your rear sway bar?:bo:

The shock extenders sound like a very good idea. It would improve the travel so that its peak is available compared to being lost when the truck is lowered and the shock is contracted and losing the travel. I think i may need more information on this since i will be going with hotchkis lowering kit.

I donot want to replace my hangers like alot of our members have. I seen what HBharley went through and i will pass on that!!!

Anything more than a 2" drop in the rear will require shock extenders, and you can get bolt on ones from http://www.so-calspeedshop.com/

QA1 also offers adjustable extenders, but they are over kill for most.
