    Angry Windscreen Help

    Guys,

Does anyone know the best place to get a new windscreen for my '03 HD. Following a truck down the A11 and a bloody boulder flew up and chipped the bottom corner of the screen. The crack gets longer with every day so need to get it replaced.
If anyone knows somewhere near Norwich that would be even better.

    Cheers

    Kev F

    Kev,

You may be able to get one from stock from ACI or americanautoparts, though I gather the HD screen is different from the normal one. You will find other specialists advertising in Classic American magazine.

I have a 40' container shipping out of Canada in around 2 weeks, due here 2-3 weeks later and I'll have spare space for a screen or anything else you want - I can give you a shipping address in Edmonton and the rest will be taken care of.

    max.

    Max,

Cheers mate. I will try to locate one over here. I have checked and I have windscreen cover on my insurance as long as I go through one of their repairers. I doubt Autoglass would carry one.

I appreciate the offer of space in the container and will get back to you within a couple of days if thats ok. Any room for a '52 FL Panhead?? LOL

Did I see that you have chipped your HD truck. If so what one did you use. I am thinking of using Superchip tuner. Any thoughts?

    Cheers again,

    Kev

    Kev,

The pan should be OK to ship so let me know soon. Give me a call on 07881 641750 if you want to go through the details. My truck is an 00, so there's no chip, just an intake upgrade.

    max.

    Dbl G,

Sorry for being thick but what is reflashing?

What are the benefits of reflashing over chipping?

    Cheers

ECU is basically the brain for you engine, ( engine control unit ) re flashing is nothing more than reprogramming. Get a stock ECU ( $50 US from a salvage yard ) for a vehicle, same as the vehicle your using it in, reprogram it to your vehicle's set up i.e. pulley's , MAF , throttle body , FTVB, injectors, etc. It will act as your chip or diablo or super chip type devise except better it still thinks so to speak. It can compensate for driving conditions, octane's, altitude , temperature, ,humidity, barometric pressure, etc. They can deactivate your p.a.t.s. system or if there is someone locally they can program it to yours. Allot more variations than just abcdef like other brands , plus no mods to the P.A.T.S. system, no Tapping a key in the column or new alarm system etc. .Chip's void warranties, they break the factory seal's when the pins go in. New ECU's cost around $325 US and they will need the numbers off of your's to match it up. Don't use your stock one (ECU ) because you can strip your goodies off and install it and drive away. This is basically how it was explained to me. Contact these guy's I am told they are the people to talk to .... http://blueoval.com/index1.htm Cheers:drink:

    Guys,

Just an update. I am/was insured by Hill House Hammond and they have put me through to Autoglass who say they can get hold of the windscreen within 10 days. Now this was a week before Christmas and I have as yet not heard from them. I did however repeat many times that it had to be a HD screen not an ordinary one and they said it would be what is standard in my make of truck.

I will keep you all updated as it will only cost me £60 excess.

Bloody typical. I explain to Autoglass about the logo and the importance of getting the right windscreen and guess what.....

They totally f*#k it up and get the wrong one. I even gave them the bloody Ford Part number and an aftermarket number for a pattern product.

Apparently their 'head buyer' has said its the only one listed and that is the only one they can get.;c

The girl was very apologetic though and said the warehouse is closed until Tuesday so she will try herself with the part numbers I have given her. Hopefully she has a bit more brain power and can read numbers.

Hopefully I'll get it sorted by our first meeting in 2005......

Not yet mate as I have to use a recognised installer for insurance purposes. If Autoglass fail to get it sorted then I will give them Pete's number as I know he'll get it right.
