Had the same fears/apprehensions as you do now. But after attending the detail class, I came out better educated/more confident about using a PC. This is my first time using a PC and theoritically, it is almost impossible to do harm because of it's action: DUAL ACTION, RANDOM ORBITS (vs. rotaries).

Go to Meguiar's site, there's a special in progress for a PC with Meguiar's LIFETIME WARRANTY for $149 (PC+freebies). I know you are a ZAINO user but their PC special is an awesome deal:
    http://www.meguiarsonline.com/

I don't think I will ever detail again w/o a PC...specially a big black truck with a big black lid.

haha, glad to see i infected somebody else with obsessive compulsive disorder for detailing. lol

last week i did my 85 f150 that i had repainted the custom silver/black 2 tone with the flame along the beltline....well it hadn't been zainoed in 6 months, just driven every day, lots o' miles, and paint was pretty nasty looking

spent about 3-4 hours claybarring alone so much tar and crap in the paint! but after the dawn wash, claybar, rewash, and 3 coats of zaino, its smooooooth as peanut butter dude!
i wanted to get 2 more coats of zaino on it before i leave for philly, but am out of time...maybe next weekend.

managed to squeeze in a coat of z5 on the harley, so both the hoopties are bling blingin right now...ya gotta love that feeling!

keep up the awsome work krom!!!!!

    Josh,
do you know that there is an adaptor that will let you use a rotary to CLAY your vehicle??? I was seriuosly thinking of trying that one. This is my first honest-to-goodness DETAIL (wash, clay bar, cleaner, swirl remover, polish, 2 coats of wax) and I could not imagine doing a black truck (with a lid) by hand. Thank God for this gizmo (or I would still be rubbing until now

yep i've seen them before, although i'm scared to even attempt to use a buffer on my truck ;t, even if i had the skill i'd think it would end up being easier to clay it by hand, just because so much claying in a small spot, then feeling the paint to make sure its smooth, then moving on. dont have enough hands to hold the buffer, hold the spray bottle with lube, as well has constantly feeling the paint i just clayed to make sure its totally smooth. probably more work and takes longer, but its only twice a year to clay.

i would like to learn out to use a buffer for removing swirls and all that though....maybe you can do up a nice how to for that? or some links, etc?

I don't think I am in any position to do a HOW-TO for using a buffer to detail. Most of what I learned came from the detailing class that Meguiar's hosted for HTSC. However, here are links that should give one a pretty good idea:

Cool...thanks for the info George and Romeo. Although I am a Zaino user, I've already considered switching to that new Meguiars product or one of the others I've been reading about and using a PC next season. I'm very happy with the Zaino shine and depth, but so far, I have not been that impressed with its ability to remove swirls or small scuffs, etc. It's possible that it's my technique and not the Zaino, but I never had that problem using Meguiars Gold Class. I figure I might try that new Meguiars Tech wax and see if it gives me the best of both worlds.

As far as the PC, I've got some unbelievable before and after pics that really have me wanting to try it. I'll post them up here when I'm on my home computer.

I don't see any blood on that Buffer so I am guessing all it took was sweat and tears.

    NOT TOO SHABBY DUDE!!!!

Here's the pics I promised. There's more if you follow the link, but these are the ones that got me excited:

And the link where the pics came from with a great how-to on the PC.

George, I saw you mention a PC 7336 from Lowes for $80 on the Talon thread where I got this link. Do you know what the difference is between that and the 7424?

This link helped answer the same question about differences in PCs:
    http://coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftC...efa+1095961357

Price for a PC 7336 here in SoCal (Lowes) was $110 + tax. You'll need a velcro backing plate & foam pads and when you add it all up, the special from Meg's for $149 (with lifetime warranty) becomes a very good deal.

The differences that I noticed is the counter weight on the polisher. The Megs, states it's for 5" pads which we use 6.5". I'm not sure how this will turn out long term though. I didn't notice any excessive vibration.(I have the Meg's). Also, the one at lowes comes with a polishing pad but the quality of the pad for automotive use is questionable. As stated above, you'll still need to purchase the velcro backing plate with also comes with 3 pads from Meguiar's. Here's how I see it.

Polisher from Lowes- $80.00 1yr mfg warranty
    velcro plate/pads - 32.95 + shipping.

Meguiar's PC - $149.00 Lifetime warranty, comes with velcro backing + 1 polishing pad.
shipping for me wouldv'e been $16.xx unless I ordered 50 bucks of additional products(which I did and needed to anyway). I figured the difference was about 40 bucks or so with just paying shipping. I guess it was the lifetime warranty that closed the deal.

You'll want to get about 1 other polishing pad and 1 finishing pads. I also got 2 of the MF bonnets to aid in removal.
    George

Everything that GEORGE G above said--100% agree!! The lifetime warranty & free shipping made the Meg's special a no-brainer for me!!!

O.K. Just bought the PC 7336SP $109.00 at Lowe's . The glue they use to attach the pad to the disk seems a little questionable. It has a foam applicator pad that requires no bonnets. However I bought a couple of 6" bonnets for a Black and Decker polisher , but they are a little small for the pad , they will fit but small. I figured I could use them for buffing. I believe a 7" or 8" bonnet would fit much nicer. I have used PC tool's for many years and have been quit pleased, so we shall see...............

    Dbl G,
Not preaching to you here but IMHO, the backing plate + pad kit that Meg's sells is a very good deal. Plus it's free when you get their special for the PC. It's free to join Meguiar's online and that's all you need to be eligible for the special (ends SOON):
    http://www.meguiarsonline.com/
FYI, I almost got a kit from:
    http://coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftC...c92+1095948339
Not a bad deal but as already pointed out, add shipping (and no lifetime warranty), MEG's win!
