    Install a Chip

I know its another pretty easy/dumb question but i was just wondering if anybody had any tips for this.

I've heard both take the computer apart to clean the terminals, and leave it together.
which way do i do it?
also, what's the best way to clean the coating off? Thanks

Disconnect negative post on battery (8mm) Make sure key is out of ignition.

Behind the battery and in the firewall you'll find the computer harness. It's attached to the processor with a 10mm stud. Stick your hand behind the battery and unbolt the harness.

Go inside your truck ( passanger side ) and pull out the computer. It's above the kick panel to the right of the heater core.

    Take apart the computer ( 6 - 7/32" bolts ).

Use a plastic fork to scrape the jelly off the contacts and then a scotch brite pad to scuff up the contacts again until you see a light copper color. Don't go too crazy.

    Clean contacts with alcohol.

Put computer back together and install chip. Use tape to secure chip to processor housing.

Before you re-install the computer take out the bracket that's in the kick panel ( the one that secures the computer ) and flatten out the vertical tabs. This will lessen the chance of the chip ever coming loose due to vibration.

Re-install modified bracket, put the computer back and reverse the removal process.

    Then....

    thanks for the info Rob

I can't wait to get the chip in! Gotta burn up some more gas though. Thought i only had 1/3 tank left....went to the ford dealer today and realized it was 1/2 a tank I'm about down to 1/3 right now though. I'll probably install the chip monday if the weather is nice

unless you'd think it would be aight to go ahead and fill the rest up with premium 93 octane and i can throw the chip in, and it won't make the octane too low from mixing the 2, or would i be better off waiting until there's less in the tank?

Well, you east coasters have 94 from Sunoco so if you're down to a third, fill it up with the good stuff and enjoy.

94 eh? I know where there's a sunoco at, never filled up there though cuz its not close to here, so i didn't realize they had 94 octane, but i'll probably head out there tomorrow then
plus they are cheaper than the Mobile, which is where i usually fill up at.

    Josh,
Do you have the chip in yet? I'd like to know if it came tuned for the 2000 or if you had input on it's settings. See any mpg change? What are you trying to accomplish with the chip?
    Thanks

So, Josh... how do you like it? My chip is *awesome*. As long as it gets 92 octane it literally makes the truck smoke. The shift performance is so much better, too.
