Someone else was having trouble with it taking a while for the tranny to kick in. I want to say that they disconnected the battery and let it sit for 30 min and then hooked it back up. Drove it for a little bit and everyting was good to go.

I didn the exact same thing to my 2000, and I really hate to be ther bringer of bad news, but you broke something in the fdorward clutch, could be the seal blew out a bit, could be the snap ring, but it has to be re-built, it'll only get worse.

there is a type of safety valve built into the transmission. It self corrects itself after an unusual load which seem to be the case nin the first situation. If it drives ok now under normal circumstances that would be the case and no harm done. In the second the last respondent is right. It will have to be rebuilt. You probably blew out a second or third planatary gear or gear ring or seal. If it is loosing fluid like dumping it when you jump on it its aseal. otherwise a gear.

the truck still drives exactlly the same, it just takes longer to get in gear. the problem seems to not have gotten any worse since it happened?

You blew out either the snap ring or the internal seal on the forward clutch, trust me.
