Question help me decide... 295/40's or 305/40's!?!?

ok, i have used the search function but still can't find any good pictures of a 295/40 (not 45)... i have seen pics of someone with a DSG HD with the Nitto 404 305/40's all around... not sure who else makes the 305/40 but i would only go with the Nitto. for some reason the Nitto's don't look that wide for a 305... i noticed this also on my friend's car who has Nitto 315 drag radials. we all know there's variations with the tread width even for the same "size" tire... since the nitto is narrower (or seems to be), i think i could be convinced to go with this one without having to worry about the "balloon" effect or sacrificing handling (they recommend a 10" wide rim at least).

i don't want to go with a 295/45 just because they are a bit taller and that's not the direction i want to be going. i do have a predator so i can adjust the speedo so that's not an issue. and i will not be spending any more than $190 per tire (what i can get the Nitto 305's for). it's not worth it to me to spend that much on tires when i'm just going to blow them off prematurely--can't stay off the loud pedal!!

    any other opinions???

with the 420 treadwear rating on the nittos - you wont be blowing through them - my first set would have lasted over 50K, but i blew out a sidewall (my fault - not the tires). i love em - they hook pretty damn well, and they look plenty wide on the truck, and esp. when compared to the stock setup.

heres a pic - notice the difference in treadwidth - and how the sidewall on the gtiis go outwards giving the impression the tire is wider than it is.

I have the nittos also and love them. The "ballooning" isnt all that bad/noticable. Its maybe 1/2 inch at most on either side of the rim from the smallest point of the rim. This is a good thing. It saves your rim from alot of curb rash if someone besides you gets in the drivers seat.

Trust me the 305 is much wider than the stocker. If I wasnt at school I would post a comparison pic of my bros 01 with GYs. There is no comparison in my book. The entire look of the truck is changed.

I vote for the Nitto 305s

If you want pics ill take some. let me know

    4CFED posted pics I see.

It looks even better on the truck. I think several people have them on the truck here and also some people over on NLOC.

excellent! thanks for the response guys! i think my mind is made up. btw, does anyone know what the tread measures on those 305's? nitto's website doesn't list it. i was going to compare it to the stock GT II's which i believe is 8.3" or something like that.

I have the 295/40s but they are Toyo Proxe S/Ts. I have a few pics, but nothing really good on the tires. I can take pics when i get him back.

cool, i'd like to see them!

and regarding the width of the Nitto's, isn't that the section width? i was thinking the tread width would be a bit smaller but that wasn't listed. i just didn't know if you any of you had measured.
