If its just a little star or chip Id go repair and pay for it out of pocket.
Every time it gets replaced you stand a chance of paint or interior damage or water leaks, it happens with even the best installers.

Most insurance policies cover windshield repairs at no cost to you. If it's small I'd do this.

I had the windshield repaired on the 01 from a rock mark. Been over 2 years ago and so far no problems with it. You can't even tell where it was unless you know where to look.

Cost about $60 for the man to come out and fix it.

I guess it all depends on how bad it is.

If it's a star chip - repair it.
If it's a running crack - replace it.

most insurance companies will only do 1-3 repairs on any one windsheild. Or so I was told.

Many glass shops will do the first mark for about $45-60 & then up to 3 additional for $10 each.

I am waiting to replace mine until after the middle of the year

I agree, if it's a chip, I'd get it fixed out of pocket. Yes, many insurance co's will fix for free and most WSR Techs will do all the paperwork. What no one tells you is that it might count as a claim. I know Farmers Ins. does count. I did that once which made claim #2. I didn't know this till I filed a claim for someone breaking into my Rodeo. Then they told me that it would be 3 claims within a short period and my rates might go up. Had I known this, I would've paid for that repair myself...it was only a $45 claim.

Man I still need to get the star in my windshield repaired. I keep forgetting about it since we barely drive the truck right now.

At least it sounds like it won't cost too much though. That's good!

You need to put a piece of black electrical tape over the star or chip until you get it fixed it will keep dirt and most importantly moisture out. If you get water in there and it freeze's the crack will expand. Mine will be repaired tomm. morning for $40 and it comes with a life time guarantee.
