    Need Help!

lately my truck has started to "tick" very bad at idle and under light acceleration, i cant really hear anything but my exhaust under hard acceleration... it doesnt really sound like exhaust leak tick, its very loud and fairly fast ticking... sounds kind of like very loud detonation at idle, but obviously it isnt that. any ideas on what it could be?

    Coil overs and plugs.

I would check to see if one of your idler pulleys is going bad as well. I have a loud ticking on mine as well but it only does it when it the engine is cold. I cant here it from inside the truck when it is under throttle, but if I pop the hood and rev the motor I can hear pretty good. It will tick until the engine gets up to temp and then it goes away. I got under there with a homemade stethoscope and found the dirty culprit. It has been getting louder and I know that I will have to replace it. Jsut need to set up an appointment and take it down for warranty work.

Take a small half inch peice of conduit about 2 feet long. Place one end on a pulley bolt and the other to your ear. Make sure as not to get the pipe hung up in anything like the belts or fan. Move from pulley to pulley. You will know when you find te culprit as the noise will be amplified greatly. That is what I did to find the noisey pully. If that is where the noise is coming from. Taking the SC belt off will narrow it down to a general area.

i will check the pullies, however i dont think that is the problem... the truck feels much more hesitant, like i am running on only 7 cylinders... i have kept the racing to a minimum as i am afraid it will only make the problem worse. i looked in the engine bay yesterday and tried to locate the source of the sound and could not even tell a little bit where it was coming from. it seemed to be coming from the right side (passenger side) of the engine but not positive. thanks for all the suggestions.

last night i took the s/c belt off and started the truck and the sound seemed to have gone away. would this indicate that my idler pullies are bad? if so would it be benificial to go ahead and buy the billet ones from chickenears? what could have caused this, could it be because my belt is too tight, it has just enough slack to barely fit, very tight.

My truck only has 25k on her and only one of them is making the clicking noise in the morning. Who knows. Put it back on and try doing what I posted above and see if you can isolate the culprit.
