Angry dont tell me its plugs already...

Last weekend I installed NGK TR6's gapped at .036 in anticipation
of what I put on today and the JLP tune friday. Been driving stock except for the plugs since then.

Today I installed a 6#L pulley, Idler and gatorbacks.

As I finished up I started the truck with no predator tune, and the blower belt on the truck to make sure everything was on correctly. It all seemed ok. I shut the truck off, took off the blower belt and started cleaning up.

About an hr later when I went to start it up again I hear this ticking noise. I have searched for ticking noises and it says plugs is the problem.

Could I have damaged a plug already? Or is it a loose plug?
    Any suggestions please??????

I dont want to be blowing a plug on the hr drive to JLP friday.

    Thanks,
    Chris W.

I would check all the plugs again and coil packs. You may have stripped one putting it in. I hope not for your sake but you should check to see that they are all tight.

dont knock my camera these are tough times. jk

I wasnt as worried about a clear pic as a broke truck.

I talked to MBO and he was trying to tell me about injector tick. I have no idea what this sounds like so it wasnt helpful to me. Can anyone explain this to me to try to help me out.

I have checked the 4 passenge plugs and all were gapped as I gapped them and were torqued to 15ft lbs. The sound I hear is a constant ticking, sounds kind of like a high pitched version of tapping a ball point pen. It seems like its on both sides and possibly louder on the passenger side. Its "ticks" like maybe 2 times every second? (no i didnt count) but it is much faster than a second hand on a clock.

    Thanks,
    Chris W.

Sounds like the injectors to me.

You can hear the injector tick but not from inside the truck. Open the hood and stand there with the engine running. Lean on over to either side of the supercharger and listen. You should be able to hear a slight cyclic tic. It will not be extremely loud. The tics are about once every half second or so.

You probably never noticed it before.

HOLY $HIT! I hope that is what it is. Been reading up over on NLOC and lots of people have the same issues. I guess I never listened hard enough before bc if a problem occured off to Ford Id go but now.......

I have checked all 4 passenger side plugs no problem, and the front driver also no problem.

Should I continue on for an extra hr or so or does anyone want to second bgstew6

Anyway more bad news today....build date 11/02.....got $hitty heads.

    Chris W.

Hopefully JLP will bring good news friday

You should really not be able to hear it jsut standing in front of the engine with the hood up. You have to lean over and into the engine compartment to hear it. When you move from one side to the other of the superchager it will get louder. I mean you have to lean up in there to hear it.

I honestly noticed mine the other day for the first time. When I was leaning over into the engine compartment trying to diagnose a prblem after a kill. Looking close at all my PCV system connections and vacuum lines. Then I noticed it.

    Hope that is your problem.

Maybe I forgot to mention that I do not have the SC belt on. Since I added the pulley I do not want to blow anything before friday.

Maybe without the sound of the SC I am not able to hear the injectors??

Ok I finished checking ALL the plugs. Everyone was as I installed it .036 and 15ftlbs.

I decided to put on the SC belt and give that a try. The damn noise is gone. I must never have heard it bc the SC is louder.

Hopefully it was only injector tick.

    Thanks for everyones input.

Chris... better to be paranoid & have a sealed up engine then a Vented block or a couple thrown/blown plugs...

I didn't catch that the blower belt was off so you were really only hearing the engine itself... with the S/C not spinning hr injectors & various relays under the hood are freakin loud & noticable.

    GOod luck @ JLP tomorrow!

I noticed the same problem last year when I I first switched over to the L drivetrain. I even posted a video clip of it on here. Consensus seemed to be that it was a known issue and is more prevalent on the passenger side. I still have not replaced any spark plugs or coils and I am fine almost 8K miles later. I have thought about replacing them this summer though.
