I'm with you Venom.....it'd be better if we had our own chat incorprated into the NHTOC board for paid members only.

i just think AIM is easiest. also if you lick the little "profile" button that appears under everybody's post, in there is listed "AOL Instant Messenger Handle: blahblahblah" so people can find each others AIM names.
and its not too bad to get a screen name on there. maybe they dont have Venom, but put your build # or something after it and they should have it. chit i've got Harley0356 on there
and yes its free. i hate AOL as well, but i'm on AIM all the time. alot easier than going on a website, going into a chat, and trying to shuffle through the members in the chat. easier for me to jump on AIM and hit up somebody who's online for a quick question, or get a few people together and jump in a chat room. gets kind of confusing in a big website-wide chat with tons of people all talking at once in 20 different topics
AOL is the devil.
Umm Josh, I think this site averages less than 20 users on at a time.
Assuming that everyone who is in the site is in chat every second of the time, I still really don't think it's gonna be a problem.
Most simultaneous users EVER was 88 and that includes members and guests. So that would be what, maybe 15 in a chat at most?
To get 20 people talking about 20 different topics at once, they'll all be talking to themselves
Add the fact that AIM installs spyware along with it, umm no thanks.

I guess I should have stated "chat integrated into the NHTOC web site" as my idea.

Me too
15 people in a chat is still confusing as heck. chit even 5-6 people it flies by. look away for 2 minutes and you're lost coming back. i just think they are confusing with a lot of people in it, which is why i like AIM. it would be a cool feature to add to the site, dont get me wrong, but easier access to AIM names rather than digging through the persons profile on here would be beneficial too, since i'd rather throw their name on my buddy list and if i see somebody online hit them up through that, than logging onto NHTOC, going in the chat, and hoping that person is in there at the same time.Originally posted by Venom

and i've never had problems with spyware and AIM. if you are really worried about that, just get DeadAIM. that even gets rid of the little ad banner on the top of the AIM buddy list

I definitely think instant messenger has its place, don't get me wrong. I use ICQ every day. Hell, thats' the only way I can get ahold of my MOM!
That's why my ICQ# is filled in in my profile - 1114694.
I'm not saying chat instead of, I'm just saying turn it on on the site, if you wanna get ahold of just one person, hit them on AIM or ICQ - that will take some of the load off of PMs, since it will sit there and be delivered next time they log into IM, but just to BS, shoot the S and bench race, a chat room on the site would be nice.
yeah a chat would be nice. i havent checked out the NLOC one at all. can any member use it? or paying only? might have to check it out
i've heard of ICQ but never used it or seen it
