Time to change the speakers in my 01.......
My 02 you need to remove the light on the door panels. Just twist them and they come right out.
oops yeah I shoulda mentioned that, the 03's didnt get the light......
But how does it sound? Big different?
Is there enough space in the rear doors for a 10 inch woofer back there?
if you can find a 10 with a 2" mounting depth then maybe....Originally Posted by Xcaliber
seriously though, look at the pics, there's no mounting depth back there.
Nice post Venom. On of these days I'll get around to an audio upgrade but I have to finish the performance goodies. Almost where I want to be so it won't be that long.
great write up Larry.. totally missed this..
a couple things to add:
1.) No there isn't room in the door for ANY speaker behind the plastic adapter without MAJOR work. the window regulator & motor is right behind the speaker area & the door is solid metal right there. Maybe lower, but the window would not function... Unless you were doing totally custom lower door panels... not gonna happen.
2.) the adapet plates are usually found in (2) flavors: ABS plastic, or the Masonite/hardboard panels made by stereo shops. both are fine for speaeker upgrades like this. A good Coaxial like larry installed with an ABS plate is a cake walk & is just fine. Wood is never recommended, as it will absorb & hold moisture/water.. not good near electrical parts & hard on sheet metal. For those doing Component speakers or 6.5" midbasses or other more exotic installs, the only way to go is Aluminum. it is as thin as hardboard (no door panel clearance issues), more rigid than hardboard (5 times its thickness) or ABS (3 times its thickness), won't corrode or absorb moitsture, & lastly won't strip out or get worn from constant in/out of speakers. So if you are doing something more than a stock speaker up grade, ALuminum plates are the way to go.. Shootme a PM.. I fabricate ready-to-go 3/16" Aluminum speaker plates for our trucks in a variety of options..
3.) door light.. the wiring should all be there for the '03s its just a matter of pluggin in a light, I think.. its been a little while... I will know in a little while when I do the speakers in Jimmie's speakers.
