Thumbs up 2005 Blue Ridge Parkway Poker Run

    WHEN: Saturday, Oct 15th, 2005

WHERE: Boone, NC beginning with a truck show at 12 o'clock noon for the locals in the Golden Corral parking lot located near the Wal-Mart. Poker Run will begin around 2pm.

WHO: All that want to join in the fun.

Last year, we all had a great time. The weather was great and the trucks were sharp. We are hoping to make this an annual event. This will be a Poker Run style event with cards costing $1 each with the best 5 card draw hand winning the pot.

Fun activities for the kids will be provided during this event. So bring the kids. The Tweetsie Railroad Ghost Train Halloween Festival will be taking place that Friday/Saturday night. It's a great event for the whole family.

For those who have not visited Boone.

Boone, NC is nestled in a breathtaking valley amidst some of the oldest, most scenic mountains in the world. It's also the home of the Appalachian State University.

The Blue Ridge Parkway extends for 469 miles, running along the mountain ridges of North Carolina and Virginia, but the best stretch for scenery and activity is right in the Boone area.

Looks like we may have to change the dates on this event due to lack of hotel room availability. Damn near everything is sold out!

We need to get confirmation from those who are 100% sure they will make the event.

You can post here or send it to me on email (fobuttry@cisco.com)..

    Thanks,

    -Del

Looks like this is a bust unless we re-schedule for some other weekend. The hotel rates jumped to almost $200 a night for the very few available rooms.

I am very disappointed this year. Last year, the hotel rates were less than $100 and plenty of vacancies.

I need a running tally of who wants to attend and is 95% sure they will. Otherwise, I'm gonna call it a bust and try for a few weeks later..

I need some feedback from everyone interested.

Sorry folks - postponing for now....

We have been trying to get hotel rooms for a month and a half with no luck. Closest hotel (decent hotel) is in Wilkesboro (about 30 miles).

So we are going to postpone until later in the fall. We will miss the turning of the leaves but that was just a bonus for everyone that would attend.

I still want to go but I know some folks would be driving a long ways just to get there and then spend all day driving and such. That makes for a LONG day.

Next year, I plan to reserve a block of rooms or a multi-room cabin so that we don't encounter this problem.
