    Interest in Valentine's Day Cruise?

I was wondering if anyone was interested in doing a Valentine's Day Cruise like we did last year?

Maybe a run down the Napa Valley, a little wine tasting.

Cool... looking forward to seeing both of you.
I'm expecting to have details on the event shortly.

Since V-day is on a Tuesday this year, I think the event will be on the weekend before. Again, expecting more info from other people to see when/how we're pulling things together.

I called Bob Plowman (he's the one doing all the leg work for the event) just now and got some preliminary information.

The cruise will be on Sat. Feb 11th.
We will meet at 8:45am and depart at 9:30am.
We're going to do a variation on last Valentine's Cruise.
Meeting location will be in Tam Junction in Mill Valley area off of the 101/Hwy 1 junction. We're either going to meet at the Dipsea Cafe or the Holiday Inn Express. Both are pretty close together, down the road from each other. The address for the Dipsea Cafe is 200 Shoreline Blvd. I'll have more details that give the exact spot when we get a chance to go there and make sure everyone's vehicle can be okay there with enough room to park and congregate.

Like last year, there will be a small $ (I think like $15 or so) to cover cost of goodie bag, 50/50 raffle type activity, rose for your sweet or to just decorate your truck with if you're single, and some champagne and/or wine.

Phil...I think we're going to make this one.

Since I was out of the country last year, what was the cruise last year?

Looking forward to seeing you Bruce!

Last year, we met up bright and early in San Rafael where we greeted people with coffee and roses for their sweetheart.. Then we drove the very scenic course from there to Pt Reyes Station and had lunch at the Station House Cafe. As we drove we made various stops to the Johnson's Oyster Farm and at the beach. This year we'll do the same thing, except start the route at a different location and take a new drive.

    Some pics are here:

Sounds like we're going to get a good turn out this year as our L brothers are also interested in joining us for a cruise. We teamed up with the Nor Cal Galaxies to come along on the cruise. :-)

Oh, incidentally, I'm game for doing cruises in your neck of the woods in the future. Just need to have interested people in going and doing this, and we need to scout out the area and the stops ahead of time so everything is well orchestrated.

And for this cruise... if we get rained out on the 11th, we'll postpone for the following week, the 18th, so that we can get good safe weather.

That sounds good Phil. Looks like a bust weekend as I will have a couple of cars in the Autorama again this year (sons 53' Ford PU and my 56' Merc). We will be setting up on Thursday evening, going to the show opening on Friday, the cruise Saturday, and then awards and teardown Sunday night.

Friday night, at the Autorama, Boyd Cottington is suppose to be there filming with the Discovery crew. I think he's spot lighting one of his new cars. Our club intends to be all around there with our club shirts on.

Sure... is there anything in particular you want to know?
    I'll find out.

    Cruise information

Valentine's Day Highway 1-Pt. Reyes Cruise and Tour

We will meet at 9:30 AM, February 11, 2006 at SR-1 and Highway 101 just
north of Sausalito. Look for the Fireside Motel which is vacant. There is a
parking lot just across the street next to the Holiday Inn Express. You
shouldn't miss us as it's just next to the road and the 1st right turn after
the off ramp. We will proceed from there heading up SR1 [Shoreline Highway]
to the Muir Woods/ MT Tam turn off and drive the Panoramic Highway. To
Highway 1 just south of Stinson Beach. We will head north to Olema, time
permitting we can stop there for a break and let those who got behind catch
up. From there we will go to Point Reyes Station for lunch at the café.
After lunch we will go out S.F.D. Blvd to Pt Reyes and will turn off on to
Pierce Point Road to Pierce Ranch for a walking tour of the old ranch as it
is a historic point of interest. In the event of fog we will need to forgo
the Panoramic Highway route and just follow SR1 to Stinson Beach.

The cost of this event is $20.00 per couple or $15.00 for a single. Checks
should be made payable to Nor-Cal Galaxies/Mercurys and can be made out the
day of the event. We will also have a few folks joining us from other car
    clubs.

A few tips and suggestions: Be sure to top off your fuel tank as there is no
fuel after we leave Marin City and Sausalito until Point Reyes Station.
Bring walkie-talkies as they can be useful in case we get split up. Keep in
mind the roads are narrow, winding and in some cases steep so conserve your
brakes on a down hill road as you never know when you will really need them.
Be extra careful as there are many bicyclists on these roads and sometimes
they can be rude and refuse to yield to motorists. Please be patent as they
have the right to use the road too.

Due to the type of roads and hazards we will encounter along the way the
tour will be postponed until 2/18/06 in the event of rain on the 11th. With
that said please notify me [Bob Plowman] @ 510-276-1375 or Neil Nutter @
925-825-2906 if you plan to attend the tour so that we will be able to
notify you in the event of a postponement. If you do not notify us you will
be taking the chance of finding a vacant parking lot on Saturday. If there
is no answer when you call just leave a message with a phone number and/or
email address so that we can notify you for any changes.

Return trip can be SR1 south retracing our route, Sir Francis Drake Blvd out
of Olema or Petaluma/Pt Reyes Rd through Nicasio and Lucas Valley Rd to
Highway 101. Other possibilities are dinner at Occidental at one of the 3
fine restaurants the little town is famous for. If you are so inclined you
just may want to make this a 2 day trip with your sweetheart and book a cozy
room at one of the many romantic Bed & Breakfast that are in the area and
then have a leisurely trip home on Sunday.

NOTE FROM THE FLYER EDITOR: The address of the Holiday Inn Express is 160
Shoreline Highway, Mill Valley, Ca., 94941. Remember we will be meeting in
the parking lot next to the Holiday Inn Express. My Yahoo directions from
the East Bay were: take I-680 North toward Oakland; take I-580 West toward
Oakland - go 41.7 miles; take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Exit - go 1.8
miles; bear right on Sir Francis Drake - go .1 mile; take left ramp onto
U.S.-101 toward San Francisco - go 4.4 miles; turn right on CA-1 - go .4
mile; arrive at 160 Shoreline Highway in Mill Valley.
