How To: Install Camber Adjustment Bolts

As you know, the 00-03 Ford F150 does NOT come from the factory with adjustable camber on the front tires. This can lead to tire wear and tires are expensive.

Here is a step by step on how to install camber adjustment bolts (either Ford or NAPA).

Tools

- (2) 1/2 inch drive wrenches
- (1) 3/8 inch drive wrench
- Various assortment of large 1/2 drive sockets, SAE 13/16 and 7/8. (Deep sockets are not recommended)
- 1/2 inch drive torque wrench
- Tire lug nut wrench
- Jack stands (3 ton plus capacity)
- Floor Jack
- Gloves
- (2) Camber Adjustment Kits (Ford or NAPA), one for each side.
- Two hours of spare time.


Step 1 - Place your truck front end on jack stands at the frame jacking point (just behind the tires, little tab on the frame).

Step 2 - Starting with the driver side. Supporting the lower control arm with your floor jack, remove you wheel. You should now have easy access to the upper control arm.

Step 3 - Observe the direction of the OEM bolts. You need to install the new bolts exactly the same direction (with the nut ends pointing outwards for easy adjustment). Using SAE 13/16 inch regular socket and wrachet (preferrably 1/2 inch drive). Remove one upper control arm bolt (either the front or rear), remove the OEM camber adjustment plate, and clean any dirt from the bolt area. Set the old cam bolts aside.

Step 4 - Make sure that you read the directions that came with your camber bolt kit. Making sure that the adjustment lobes are facing upwards, insert your NEW camber adjustment bolt with the nut side away from the upper control arm. Tighten the cam bolt to 80-100 ft lbs torque.

Step 5 - Now repeat steps 3 and 4 on the the remaining cam bolt

Note: If you plan to install clunk washers, now would be the time to install them.

Step 6 - Now repeat steps 2 thru 5 on the passenger side.

Step 7 - Take your truck and have the alignment verified.
