little button at the base of one of the shafts....on the plastic base..push it in and it should release..

if its on backwards, its gonna be a b1tch to get off, cuz the side with the notches is in the hole without the button/latch and the side without notches is mashed into the side with the latch so its a supertight fit.
Hold the button and you just have to pull reallllly hard to get it back out cuz the latch is wedging it in.
Don't ask me how I know this.......

If looking at the rear seat in question, the metal piece that was stuck was the one closest to the center console. I tired everything i could think of and then noticed that if I pulled the leather down from around the female end that there was a black cap that covered the female piece. I used a small flat head screw driver and popped it off. Once it was off there was a metal spring loaded clip. I pushed it in and out it came. A whole lot easier than I thought it would be. I had tried clamping a pair of channel locks and then banging it with a hammer to get it out and that didn;t work so I posted the HELP.
