Decided this was worth a new thread instead of hijacking everyone elses.
I had for the last couple years the Belltech front springs, matched with the Hanger/shackle setup in the back (also Belltech products). Last winter I finally installed the C-notch kit to drastically improve the ride. The kit I bought was from Western Chassis. When I bought the C-notch, I also bought the flip kit so I would have the parts to do the back when I could get around to the front.
They finally came out with drop spindles for the 97-03 F-150's and I knew that was the product for me. I read about the a-arm kits and the sway bar issues that go with them.
The spindles were easy to put on. Other than the shackles or changing shocks, this was the easiest susp mod I have done. I would like to see how it would look with just the spindles, since I have the springs too and will never take them out. The springs put a hurt on the inside of your front tires and I think the spindles would probably align like stock. This would be better than swapping springs like most everyone does to lower the front slightly (easier too).
I had the spindles on for a week before I got around to doing the flip kit so the back matched the front better. I made an interesting discovery. I tried to put the flip kit in WITH the Belltech drop shackles also. It fit but the back was TOO low. While checking clearances and such with the truck back on the ground, I noticed that my rear end has been hitting the underside of the bed. I still bottom out from time to time with the c-notch installed ("nitro-drop" shocks) and I saw where the bump stops hit the axle so I figured I was good. Well, not quite. There is a crossmember under the bed directly over the main part of the pumpkin that is "clearanced" for the rear end now. I think that when they designed the C-notch, most of the F-150's had the smaller rear end, not the huge 10.25" unit our trucks come with. I am not going to hack it out, it is already shaped correctly form the rear end hitting it. So my truck bottoms out on the bump stops and the bed at the same time. I put the stock shackles in and got exactly the right height I was looking for.
