Ok, it is in. Without going throught the extra wire set up to watch the video, you cannot even set the clock. I can play movies to the rear screen, Listen to DVD, Radio, CD all good. However, I am a little disappointed in the overall functionality of the radio. The Factory HU produced more bass, seemed to be louder over all, the graphics kind of suck, and very limited music control (I will buy the H701 in the near future). Upside, it is cleaner in the mids and highs, seems to have a bit more separation, and man it looks good.
To install in the Superduty, you have to use the F150 DD kit. I took the kit tabs and cut them in half to use the multiple hole layout and screw it to the dash. I used the front faceplate piece to line everything up and it made for a very nice secure mounting. I did not use the Alpine frame or faceplate. I screwed the brackets directly to the radio just like the factory HU.
Here we go...I need more amp and more control. Anybody want to loan me some money
any pics ...
I was able see one @ my local best buy store....price at about 1,000
I will take some pics today.
Also, if you are seeing $1000 shop it. I am seeing people spending $800ish for it.
Got the majic box on friday and man it has a great picture! Now I have it tuned a bit better, doesn't totally suck in sound quality. I still need more power! More is better, right??????
Just be careful where you shop this unit at. Make sure they are authorized by Alpine to sell Alpine products...don't take a website's claim for it, check with Alpine.
We sold out of our first two allotments at $1000, so we don't see any reason to discount it. We have had it on sale once already, and it went for $900.
Here's the reason you ought to be careful when shopping around. We've sold over 20 of these things from my store alone, and we've already had a fair amount of these come back with issues. Everything from poor sound quality, zero FM reception, pixel-out's to just out-and-out dead. Of course, we just swap the unit and send the defective one back to Alpine. With inventory getting tight on these, exchanges might be delayed for awhile. We're about a week out already for new sales.
If you didn't buy it from Alpine getting it repaired might be a problem, I talk to people everyday that have problems with websites and the like not responding to emails or refusing to honor any sort of warranty...implied or not.
I bought mine retail...but had a friend that gets wholesale from the retail. All I am saying is sometimes there is a little to save.
I agree...if there's a discount to be had somewhere by all means find it. I'm not saying NOT to look for a discount, just to buy it from a reputable dealer.
Maybe my original post came out wrong.
Here are the pics
