Cool (Lowering) Cost effective vs. Quality

I have seen many set ups on this forum with many combinations of products to lower the trucks. I remember one guy in particular had just the right ride height and rake. He said that he accomplished it through using a Hotchkis front drop and rear shakles ( the size I do not remember).

I was wondering what some others have used to lower their trucks and if they are happy with the results?

Also...one question, at what point of lowering do you begin to effect towing capacity? If anyone knows please fill me in.

    Thanks

How much do you want to lower it? I dropped mine 2" in the rear using shackles and left it at that. Are you wanting to go down in front also?

Rob G lowered the front with hotchkis coils and the rear with a set of 4" JLP shackles (really only 3" shackles)

I'm lowered in the rear with the same shackles and up front, i've got a set of stock coils with 1/2 a coil cut off, for a 1" drop up front.
so right now i'm at a 1/3 drop, and it sits pretty level

    just a little lower

I dropped the back of mine with a set of 2" shackles and am pretty happy with the results. It sits just about level, maybe 1/2 higher in the back, but figure a hard bed cover will just about take care of that once I get it on.

I would not mind dropping it 1 more inch all the way around, but not sure what method I want to use. Harley#356 did you do anything to the shocks in the front or rear with your 1/3 drop?

I have ground force rear shackles and they have 1" & 2" holes. I am using the 2" holes right now, but I was thinking of getting 2" hangers and going back to the 1" hole on the shackle to get 3". And then cutting half a coil off of the front. Any opinions out there for me?

    Thanks,
    Jim

You can do that in the rear, but hangers are a royal PTIA to swap out. which is why i just did bigger rear shackles.

anyway, for the shocks, i've got a set of bilstein shocks off the lightning. HUGE improvement.

I am getting a set of so-cal rear shock extenders just for good measure though.

Never bottomed out yet with my setup, but i did put a set of Energy suspension bumpstops on the rear that are 1" shorter than the stockers
