How to Repack Idler Pulley Bearings
Fairly simple process...will update with pics later...
How to Repack Idler Pulley Bearings
step 1: remove blower belt
step 2: using a 13mm socket remove the SC idler pulleys
step 3: using a small pick, remove the dust cap from each bearing. This can be done using a small mechanics pick, pop the cap by inserting the pick between the inner race and seal (it comes out very easy)(note: these are captured ball bearings so they won't fall out).
step 4: clean bearings with wd-40, breakaway etc.
step 5: re-pack bearings with a lightweight Hi Temp Bearing grease (I personally Use Mobil 1)
step 6: using your thumbs press the dust seals back on
step 7: re-install pulleys and blower belt . . . Voila nice and quiet
This whole process can easily be done in less than 30 minutes
One should visually inspect the bearings...looking for signs of maring, scoring, metal shavings etc. Replacement is required if this is found. One can either buy a replacement stock 90mm pulley for around 15 bucks (these come complete), or opt to upgrade to nice billet pullies from our SV's for around 50 bucks and can be had in either stock 90mm size, some carry a 92mm, or 100mm. One can also opt to replace the bearing only. Replacement bearings can be had for around 10 bucks a peice from most autopart stores.
