    possibly switching branches, need advice.

So, thinking of switching branches from the Marines to the Army. So has anybody done this, or have any advice.

no doubt...depends on the circumstances you got going for you....but if it was deployment wise....shoot....i would take 7 gone 6 back 7 gone 6 back any day over 15 gone 12 back 15 gone 12 back....just my opinion....

    good luck no matter what...

switch to the AF dude. most only deploy for 4 months every 12-18 months. but my career field does 6 month deployments and then 6 months to a year home. better quality of life for the family too, IMO. but you couldnt pay me to join the army because those guys are always gone.....

+1 there. depends on your specialty . The AF for the most part, unless you have other options for State or Federal employment; i.e. Customs, DHS, Fire Dept, ..good luck.

+2. depends on your circumstances- MOS, promotion opportunity, what career planner is telling you, etc. Not bashing the Army, but beret's would not be my thing.

Gotta factor in the Bonus situation too. I know that the Marines are in the process of re-vamping their bonus program and you can double dip until 23JUN if you re-enlist. But then you have to factor in promotion stuff. I believe the army is generally easier to get promoted in that some of the other branches. Also, have you considered going to college on the GI Bill and what not? That's what I did and I came back in as an officer after partying for 4 years. With the GI Bill, National Guard Pay, ROTC stipend for my last 2 years, plus working as a truck driver for BestBuy, I cleared over $2,200 a month during school which was more than what I earned as an E5 on active duty. Plus the state of Wisconsin paid for 100% of your tuition if you went to a state college. And college was the easiest 4 years of my academic life... much easier than high school. Just something to chew on.
