    Ultra Lite Guages

It it true that the Ultra Lite A/F gauge (#4375) is not perimeter and/or back lit?

Also, I have been thinking about going to an electric full-sweep boost gauge (such as #4376). How difficult is it to install an electric? ... mechanicals are pretty simple. I've always been of the understanding that mechanicals are more positive/accurate. Are there any advantages to electric boost gauges? ... if not, then why are they sooOOHH much more $$$ ?

The electric boost gauge's have a mamory recall so that after a wot run you can press a little button on the face of the gauge and it'll show you your peak boost number.

I know that these gauges use a GM map sensor for the boost readings so I'm assuming that's the bulk of the price difference since those sensors are close to $50.00 from a GM dealer.

yes the Phantom & Ultra-Lite Autometer's are NOT backlight or night-illuminated in anyway.

The Cobalt is. Other than that I would call Autometer...

Silly if you ask me to ahve a gauge where you cannot read the face legend at night... Autometer claims " no room for lighting"

I am really interested in what you say about lighting in the phantom and ultr-lite series gauges from autometer. In product descriptions at the autometer website and also attruckperformancecenter.com it states "Included are red and green colored light bulb covers for a custom night driving look. 12V Lighting Included ". Did both autometer and truckperformance center get that completely wrong?

I was just about to get some, but want more information on this lighting issue.
    Thanks,

    Mako,

I noted the same discrepancy. That's why I put the thread up ... to see if anyone had them. Apparently, they are not "night-lighted"! I have called Auto Meter and am awaiting a return call from a "tech". Will keep you posted.

Got the call from Auto Meter. Definitive word is: "None of Auto Meter's A/F gauges are back-lit with a socket-type bulb with interchangable color-sock. The Lunar A/F gauge incorporates green EL (electro-luminescent) lighting; the Cobalt and C2 A/F gauges have cobalt blue LED back lighting. All other A/F gauges have no illumination because the design of the gauges do not allow lighting to fit inside the gauge case."

So, I guess we just get "dancing lights" at night?! ;b

the only autometer A/F guages with back lighting are the Cobalt/C2 & MAYBE I repeat MAYBE the lunar "illuniescent" gauges.

the Phantom (I have sold 2 because they aren't) & the Ultra-Lite (I have sold one becuase it wasnt) are NOT back lit/illuminuated.

All you get is colored lights & no legend. BS in my book.. so I went with stewart Warner instead.

I looked all over stewart warner's website and could not find a single A/F gauge anywhere, couldn't find a boost gauge either. Couple of turbo boost gauges, but I don't want one to say turbo on it.

musturbo, we are only refering to the A/F gauges not being back-lit.

The electronics in the gauge prohibit lighting channels in the gauge body, or so I am told.

not the original SW website... go here

Here is a day time shot of the boost gauge on the column pod.

Like I said, SW is offering Chrome replacement Bezels to further match the Factory gauages.
