    Cool Removing the Sunshade Stop

Since the first mile I had ever driven in my truck, the sunroof slide has been bugging me cause it would not go all the way back with the roof closed or vented up!!
Well after a couple of beers, Hoffmann and I figured it out!!...

You will need only a small 7/32 or 5.5mm socket or wrench!!

Open the sunroof to the vented or up possition with the shade open...

Here you will see one small vertical screw in the rear corner of the sunroof opening...
    (Drivers side from inside)

    (Drivers side from outside)

Remove the screw from both sides of the roof (you can go from the inside or the outside depending on your tools)...

There is a thin, black, metal bracket that those screws held on from one side to the other, lift that bracket from the back first, then slide out to the rear of the truck...
    (Drivers side)

When slightly removed from it's factory possition, very carefully turn it so that you can bring it down through the sunroof opening... (Watch your headliner and glass!!)

    Now enjoy that sun!!!!

    Thanks again Hoffmann!!!

You better hope that your sunroof is sealed watertight. That stop also serves as the drip tray and exits any water down the b pillar. Without it, any water that gets in will fill up the top side of your head liner and will run down your a pillars into your floorboard.

Unfortunately I found this out the hard way after the shade knocked the tray out of place and there was a monsoon of a rain storm the next day.

adjusting the sunroof to seal correctly is not that hard...4 screws and some patience LOL...

I also dress the seal bout every 6 months to keep it from drying out and shrinking/cracking

only if you like the dealership messing with your truck

free or not more times than not they end up screwing something up....its the law of averages..which is stacked against most dealers with inpet techs....

Yep...kind of a four hand job though. Unfortunately, I've had to do it twice already in the three months that I've had the truck.

As you can see in the pics, the mount tabs on the tray are u shaped instead of a drilled hole so everytime my shade taps it remotely hard it pops out and slides to the back of the cab and its a PITA to fish it back out.

The replacement tray with the drilled holes is $130 @ cost from Ford so I just epoxied some washers to it and that took care of the problem until last Monday when it came loose again.

I may take Stew and C Dillon's approach and just remove it completely since I adjusted the glass so that it seals better. It's on my to do list for the weekend.

True...luckily I've been blessed to have a brother that's a Ford tech so I don't have to worry about about taking it in if it's neccessary. Getting parts cheap ain't half bad either.

Alright guys, this is a ten minute job!! You will not get out your hunny-do list!!

BTW on another note, there is a secondary stop that will not make the shade impossible to close back!! It will only go inside the headliner about 2 or 3 inches, wich makes it real easy to retrieve!!
