lol yeah well for a 24 year old work truck, detailing the engine bay was never on the to-do list haha

didnt get the L intake, its for EFI only. I'm not spending 6 months and 10 grand on this project like the HD Hopefully just 2 months and 2500 tops between the motor & trans and everything I need. Going to get a 4 bbl intake manifold and run my holley projection setup on it. down the road when I dont need the truck for weekend work and can tear it down, I may do a full L drivetrain swap, switching to the L's EFI, computer, harnesses, etc.

gotta order parts to do the swap this week. want to try and get it done ASAP because I've gotta pull the motor in the harley shortly after

I'd put a cam in too while you have it all out...in the 5.8 I mean...that would be nice for my '93 LX...haha.

I'd swap it over to a roller cam while it is apart....they come machined already for roller lifters..easy work and good gain with a decent cam!

    UPDATE!!!! The Ripdown Has Begun!

Just copying + pasting my post from our local club site, so if you dont recognize some of the names lol its cuz I'm just talking to one of the local guys, but if you know any of the answers to my questions, feel free to post on up!

Got the old hooptie up to Steve's shop today, started tearing into it! Only stayed about 3 hrs and my fingers were starting to freeze off with no heat lol, but made decent progress. Got the whole top end & front end accessories all off it. Tomorrow I'm going to try and get the tranny/converter bolts out, motor mount bolts out, and Monday pull the motor out. I got 15 out of the 16 manifold bolts out, and the very last one, the very back one, is rusted up so much a 1/2" socket doesnt fit, and 9/16th is too big Always the last damn bolt!!! LoL!

Few issues I thought up, and any help would be appreciated! If you dont feel like typing up an answer, gimme a buzz!!

    1. Distributor Gear: I ordered a distributor from advance for an 85 F-150 351 4bbl with the module on the side. One question, will the distributor gear be right though? Does the 94 351 distributor have a different gear on it for the roller cam or whatevers in there? If it is different, can I swap the gear from the 94 distributor onto the 85 distributor? Chip you still got that distributor?

    2. Serpentine vs Vbelt: I'm thinking I'm going to keep the vbelts. If i go serp, I definately need a new fan, old one wont fit on the new water pump, and I'd need a new PS pump & Alt. Unless somebody has a serp alt & ps pump, brackets, & fan for me Otherwise if I go vbelt I think Larry said I can reuse the old 302's waterpump & timing chain cover and go serp. Not optimizing performance there, but definately cutting some costs.

    3. Tranny/flexplate: I got pics of the tranny. If anybody can identify what type of trans it is (C4?) that'll help me track down a flexplate I need (I hope! lol)

    Pics!!!

Last photo of it as a 302!

    Ripping it down...

Some tranny shots incase anybody can identify what trans this is...

Oh yeah, I also need to know....which plugs? I was going to get NGK's, but advance lists 3 different NGK's for the 351. which model # do i need?

Lastly, rear main seal. Somebody told me 2 piece, advance only has a 1 piece listed Which is it?

Distributer gear I think is ok,,,just needs to be changed with a roller cam.The tranny is probably an AOD.

lol well the K&N is only about 3 years old, but I definately have to clean it, its BROWN from sucking up oil residue smoke

3982.....I found out the trans is a C4. Hopefully it holds up for at least a year, and then I'm going to try and a C6 to swap into there. What do you mean with the distributor gear? I bought a distributor for an '85 351 because the distributor for the '94 351 wouldnt have the ignition module (TFI) on the side of the distributor like i needed. But I thought the L motor has a roller cam in it or something, so does that mean I need the 94's gear off the distributor to put on my '85's 351 distributor? can the gears be swapped easily?

this old motor stuff is a whole new world for me lol. I know our 5.4 mod motor pretty damn well from assembling mine from the bare block up. This old stuff is all new lol
