The wrong kinda blown truck
Well, just incase ya havent seen it else where, got my nice new 2007 Harley Davidson Saleen truck over to the UK just a couple of days before Christmas. Then the Thursday after, whilst driving through the city at no more that 25-30mph, the motor blew.
Big vibration, loud knocking then a bang. Large smoke outta back and then engine died. Got a hole the size of a golf ball on the drivers side rear of the block. The truck had covered no more than 128 miles with me (518 in total)
Ford US warranty will sort it only if I pay to get the truck back to the US dealership.
Luckily, I sorted a UK warranty and that seems to cover it. It's booked into Mildenhall Auto Centre to have the blown motor pulled out for the warranty company engineer to assess. Hopefully they will ok and new engine.
So gotta wait until 15th to get it in the garage and then wait for the ok to ship a new motor over from the US.......
All this before the first trip to Santa Pod on the 15th MArch

Do they have any ideas on what caused it yet? I have the same (JDM) setup as you and I dont even want to drive my truck. I have 4500 miles on mine now with no major problems.

Ok....I have been told that there is a problem with crank end play on some of the engines that have found there way into Saleen.
They have had 2 trucks go bang acutally in Saleen's factory with only 10 miles on the engines. It is/was a Ford problem.
As soon as this problem was found there was a fix that sorted it.
It looks as though mine slipped through the net.
So, engine is out and waiting for another motor to be shipped over.
Will keep you all in the loop.

Right...Looks like Ford know of this problem too.....got this from another F150 owner...
Kev,
I know this is not Mustang related, but i could not help but notice your mention regarding F150HD engine problem.Ford do indeed have a problem with late 5.4 motor. There is an issue with crank thrust washers breaking up.I have a nearly new HD truck in the shop waiting for a new short engine.Symptoms are noisy timing chains at idle.Found excess crank endfloat, and upon removing pan thrust washers in pieces and a nasty mess. This motor had done around 8500 miles. This also had a Roush supercharger, I had fitted when new,but this has no bearing on the fault as Ford are aware of the problem, refered to by a service message on the Ford technician information service .
Hope this is of some interest to you.
Will post pictures of mine when I get some later today....

Makes me cringe to see that. That is some major carnage there. How many rods ended up snapping? Hopefully you won't be down too long and she is better than new!!!

Damn...when she went, she went. Haven't see that much damage on some highly modified blown motors. Best of luck in getting her back on the raod again.
