Thumbs up Sulastic Rubber Springs Installed

Some of you recall my efforts to eliminate the bouncy and springy ride that I got after upgrading to the Belltech Leaf Springs. During the first week of January replaced my "L" Spec Bilsteins with Supercrew Bilsteins. These offered a much-improved ride, but after more seat time, I still felt a bit more bounce and springiness than I desired. So after much research and review of info, I decided try a pair of the Sulastic Rubber Springs, that the Tundra and Chevy forum members rave about for correcting their bed bounce problems. Installation is simple and straight forward, it requires removal of shackles and replacing each with Sulastic Rubber Springs.

Edit: Thought I should clarify that my issues as well as comments and review are in regards to suspension/bed bounce and springiness conditions I was experiencing during highway and expressway speeds. Probably the only thing that could improve the quality of the ride when driving over the extreme potholes and uneven road surfaces we encounter in most inter-cities, is a Hovercraft.

Here’s part an article from the 2007 SEMA show: Sulastic calls them rubber springs, but they are really a couple of bushings that damp the harshness of leaf springs. The company says the product can cut driver fatigue by smoothing out the ride, and makes the vehicle easier to drive with large loads or while towing. The device doesn’t affect load capacity or warranty, but may reduce ride height by ¼”.

BTW - Cosmetics were much better on the ones I received. Got mine at Memo Imports - sale priced @ $269.00 incl shmt.

Installed them mid-January but didn’t have the opportunity drive the truck due to the salty road conditions. Well road conditions improved and I got some drive time last evening and early this morning. Gotta tell ya, I really love the further improvements these things make to the ride. Smoothness is an understatement…. there’s pratically no bounce or springiness to the ride period. I deliberty drove over small pot holes and uneven patches to test the ride. Does feel kind of eerie or uncanny for a truck to have such a smooth silky-like ride. Falling asleep should be my only concern now! Another added benefit was a bit more drop (1/4-1/2") in the rear. Here are some pics taken this morning.

Hope this is of benefit to others.

So these just replace drop shackles and provide a better ride? Sounds like a no brainer.

So I would loose some drop in the rear if I currently use drop shackles... I wonder if they will be producing these to also provide a drop?

Right. They're not ment for use as a means of lowering your vehicle. Their purpose is to get rid of rear suspension/bed bounce and springiness.

Front - Belltech 1-2" PRO Drop Coil Spring Set (BEL23804), 2" setting & installed without rubber isolators.
    L Spec Bilstein Shocks

Rear - Belltech Drop Leaf Springs (5986).
    Screw Bilstein Shocks

    Much better pic Hoff.

Don't remember the warranty period and can't my warranty card Model # is SSA01. They are made in Mexico and the web site on the box is Suspensiones Sulastic. Did get a call from one of their California Reps to verify make and model before they shipped.

That's all the info I've found so far. Guess I got lucky and caught an after-Christmas sale.

Wes, how is the quality of craftsmenship?
Are they powdercoated & how do the welds look?

I maybe interested ina set of these.
Any idea how long these have been around?

    A. My pair was pretty good, not quite as nice as the one shown in Hoff's photo. You probably would want to do some finish sanding and repaint.

    A. That would have had to be done before they assembled, cuz the rubber can detach from the metal or get damaged if exposed to temperatures over 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Have to say I didn't pay close attention to the welds, they did appear solidly built.

    A. Approx 16 1/8"

    A. Product been in the market for eight years.

    TIA, Paul

    Lightbulb Warranty and Life Expectancy

    Answer Hoff's earlier question.

Warranty - one year against material or labor defects, and a 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee.

Manufactured to last at least 10 years. Could be shorter if the vehicle is used constantly under severe or off-road working conditions.

Can the Rubber Springs Break?Yes, if the rubber is detached from the steel. If this happens, the only thing that would happen is that the spring's work limits would make a harmless metal cranking noise.

You certainly shouldn't get less than a 1/4".

Those interested might want to shoot an email to Memo Imports, info@memoimports.com. Tell them a forum member bought @ $269.00 a pair last month, and see if they are willing to sell at same price. Doesn't hurt to try. I always ask for a first time buyers discount, and more often that not, get one!

Good info here... I can understand your concern with the HUGE potholes and uneven roads in SE michigan.

Keep us updated on the consistency of the ride improvements. I would assume the rubber durometer is quite low to get the dramatic ride improvement, so I'm wondering about the durability of the rubber over time.

    Great looking stance BTW!
