Here’s a photo after installing the 2001 Harley 4-Spoke Steering Wheel. I also covered the wheel with a Two-Toned Leather Wheel Skin. Had to settle for Gray/Black, cuz I couldn’t find one in Silver/Black.
The photo below shows two Clock Springs, the one on the left is for use with the 2001 Steering Wheel. The one on the right is the 2003 OEM Clock Spring, which had to be replaced.
The photo below shows the backside of both clock springs. Note that the 03 Clock Spring has the beige part that extends well above the height of the 01 to the left. This difference is important because that extended peace is what causes the turn signal to automatically cancel when the wheel is straighten after turning. Since the 01’s clock spring doesn’t extend far enough onto the steering shaft to cancel the turn signal, I had to manually turn-off the signal after each turn. This got old quick!
After giving the steering system section of my repair manual a through review, I discovered that there was a part that went on the 01’s steering shaft called a “Turn Signal Cancel Cam” that would automatically cancel the turn signal. This part is the small black piece lying on its plastic envelope. Its part no is F2TZ 13318A. Just installed it this afternoon and it does indeed automatically cancel the turn signal. Had to use my rotary tool to remove some of the plastic material on the flat sides inside the cam. Had to do it because the lower part of 01 steering shaft must be a bit smaller than that of the 03's shaft, so the cam would'nt initially slide down far enough to engage the turn signal cancel mechanism. Now all steering wheel functions, including turn signal cancellation work as they it should.
