Question Any How to's for this????

Are there any how to's for removing the spacer between the leaf spring and the axle?

Has anyone done this? I would really like to know how to do it. The do's and don'ts.

    thanks

That's usually called "shim" and is a little work involved...here's some steps:

    remove the leaf springs
C clamp the leafs on both sides of the center pin
loose the nut of the center pin
remove the center pin and the "shim" (spacer you mentioned)

Do I need to really take out the gas tank to remove the driver's side front leaf spring bolt?

if there are only three leafs, I personally wouldn't remove any, it will be way to soft, and also easy to break with some load on top

10-4. Then that shim or spacer may be the only thing left for me to do besides buy new leafs from GF or BT.

This leaf spring replacement that drops the truck 3-4 inches only appears to have 2 springs. Are these stronger than 2 of my factory ones would be, assuming I removed the small third one?

Yes, unless you take the bolt half way out and then cut it. You will have to replace the bolt with a new one and put it in the oppisite way. Make sure its not too long.

Agree, that's what was done to mine, just measure the one you can remove and get another, usually easy to get.
Also if you remove a leaf you will definitely have a spongy ride and probably won't be able to carry much in the back before bottoming out.

Ok I was able to remove the shims fairly easily without taking off the leaf springs. I dropped around an inch. So that will have to do for now. Maybe in the future I will get new leafs but for now it is going to be good enough. Thanks for all the input. The rake is no more. About 2 or 2.5 inch diffrence in the front and back.

those 2 leafs probably have a higher spring rate than your 3 stock leafs, and are probably thicker, so it probably ends up the same, if not a little higher of a spring rate than the stock setup.

sounds like leafs in the rear is your best bet for if you decide to lower it a bit more. sucks about the gas tank and the bolt. typical ford for ya

yeah I'd go that route too, I removed the block and bought drop shackles, wasn't really impressed with the drop I got...
