    Unhappy Brake rotors going bad...

Not much to say, just look at the pics, and judge by yourself...

I am all right and the other parts of the truck weren't affected, for what could be much worse

    ...conditions of driving were:

Dry, clear, about 60mph and 400' to get off the exit ramp, less then one mile from my house...

    A huge thank's to Amy

She replaced the rotors on her truck and left the old ones in my garage, so I had to install them for now.

I can only laugh about it

Did they give way as you were driving? You hear a clunk - a thud - what?

Well that certainly isn't regular wear and tear.

That is scary as hell. Glad no one was hurt!

I'm glad you're okay - I'm surprised that didn't damage anything else...It's a good thing you weren't too far from home!!!

Dude if those were Rich's, you need to seriously talk to him about a warranty issue. I have never seen a hub seperate from the rotor like that.

    And did I mention....HOLY CRAP!!!

that is catastrophic rotor failure!!!! hopefully Richard makes it right by at least offering a great discount if not free replacement ( depending on how long ago you bought them)

Yeah, definitely something wrong there...that's cast right? or is it just welded together? Either way, there definitely was water getting in between corroding it...you wouldn't know there was a problem unless you dye-inspected them and even then, you really couldn't tell - too many gaps...that is scary!!!!

Damn,Hoff. That could have ended really bad.

Looking at your pics, raises a question(unrelated to the seperation),I thought dimpled rotors werent supposed to "heat crack"(if thats the right description).Or is it just supposed to lessen it?

Someone said that Rich had told them the cracking issue was fixed. I'm not sure since when though...

bad vibrations, hitting those Jersey Potholes, aka reverse speed bumps, I would still say fatigue due to poor manufacturing. poor Quality controls.

Is it actually two pieces? Or is it one cast piece? If it's cast, then definitely metal fatigue (possibly too pourous)...if two pieces, definitely don't want water getting in there. and they might want to reconsider how they're putting them together...

And I think the "cracking issue" that was referred to above, was the cracks on the face of the rotors...

    Thank's for the support

They have some small cracks on the surface (where the pads sit) but that has nothing to do to what just happened, it is clear there were some rust spots on the inner part of the rotor (which you can't see just looking at it) you're only able to see when this happens...

I left my house last night to buy some groceries, the place is about 3 miles from my house, and I was driving slow because I use City streets to get there, on the way back, is a medium speed highway, as I mentioned, I was about 60mph, applied the brakes to get off the boulevard, heard the thug and the steering was all over the place, imagine it, out of nowhere you lose the brake power on one side and have a piece of metal lose on the other side, and clunk noises everywhere...I am still thankful nothing happened to me or my truck besides the rotor...

I think no matter what weather conditions or how long it has been there, they shouldn't break like this, and to think sometimes I was much faster than that the way the truck lost the brake power, if I was going to stop at a traffic light behind another car...believe me, I'd have rear ended someone

You are really, really lucky Hoff! The ABS probably had your steering wheel in a fit...!!! Maybe there was a reason I was so uncomfortable to drive your truck...lol..jk (yeah, I know, bad time to be kidding )
