Mid year 08's had added as an option.
Now standard on SD's to increase fuel mileage (they say??) but 3:73 can still be ordered as option.

I ordered my 08 in late April 08 and the 3.55 wasnt an option with 20" wheels, only if you had a truck with 17's or 18's. I wont swear to it but I think the 3.55 was only an option for the 09 model (with 20" wheels that is).

Just a FYI NO MORE Vista Blue Flames for the 2009 MY Build. They are balanced out.

I can ONLY build Solid Black Harleys with the tape strip, for the rest of the 09 build cycle.

Thanks, I figured the fuel mileage was the reason. Seems to me it would make the engines bog and have to work harder to get going, especially when towing. Which is what these trucks are supposedly designed to do.
On the highway they are probly OK. I dont know anything about the 6.4s optimal operating range but with the 6.0 most folks will agree that it does best at 2K rpms. Even with 3.73s and stock tires on my truck I have to be cruising at almost 80mph to get near 2K rpm.
I wish they would make 4.10s an option with the diesels.

I had the same question and pretty much as Randy explained it, There is only a limited number of the blue flame HDs that are going to be produced and Ford has sold out of them already.
