    Gauge trick at start-up?

I’m new to the board so forgive me if this has already been covered.

I picked up a ‘pre-owned’ 02 F150 HD two months ago and I thought only the 03, anniversary, models pegged the gauges at start-up. Meaning, when you start the vehicle all of the gauges go from zero to 100% in unison and back, then return to operating levels. Mine does not do this, well until this morning but it refuses to do it again. The only difference that I know of was it was a cold morning (by SOCAL standards).

Two questions: (1) Is it supposed to do that? (2) How can I set it so it always does it?

IIRC, usually that is a warning the battery is going dead/bad. Might want to throw a charger on there, or test it to see if you need a new one.

yeah NONE of them are supposed to do it on their own, 2002, 2003, any year truck! Its usually a low battery warning, or some other gremlin. You can force the truck into doing the digital dash trick and the gauges will all sweep, but it'll only do it each time you force it into the digital dash trick, not every time you start the truck.

Oh, got it. Wow, I thought it was novelty trick like the Lexus IS does at startup. Makes sense, I would rather the technology go into performance anyway.

I will get the battery checked out.

    Thanks.

not enough grounding can/will cause this also, my supervisor's escalade has been doing this since new, I heard her complain about it so long I went to check it out and yeah, the big m/mounts they use for the better ride plus the tiny ground strap left the factory/dealer guys scratching heads after 10-15 trips and one 7 day stay there. Of course they scoffed at my suggestion, but a month later when I asked her she said it was fixed, showed me the makeshirt extra ground motor to frame cable they added. Yes usually always the battery, no matter what the tester says, yet also can be just another GOOD ground needed. Hope yours is fixed. I just added this way after the game was over to maybe help others who read this way late like I just did, enjoy your truck, these things are awsome!
