    Cleaning Wheels

Has anyone tried any of this stuff?

    Wheel Cleaner:

Eagle One Chrome & Wire Wheel Cleaner
Poorboy’s Spray & Rinse Wheel Cleaner
    Griots Garage Wheel Cleaner
P21S wheel cleaner gel (this size incl. sprayer)

    Wheel Sealant:

    (Chrome / Aluminum)
    Poorboys World Wheel Sealant
Zaino Z2 or Z5 or Z-CS Clear Seal

    (Painted)
    DP Wheel Glaze

I'm thinking about trying some of this stuff.
    Any feedback is appreciated.

careful with that harsh stuff on wheels, I've never had a car with chrome wheels before, but the eagle one 'all wheel cleaner' basically stripped the paint off a set of pony wheels on my ladies mustang, I ended up selling the wheels and buying another set It turned them from gray to white!

I just use a separate car wash bucket and mitt to clean my wheels now, and use an old toothbrush to get into grooves.

I haven't tried any of the one's you mentioned except the Eagle One a on my chrome wheels, and my wifes' stock Acura rims (painted) .... haven't had any problems, and works fairly well.

The two best wheel cleaners I've found however, are either Meguiar's All Wheel Cleaner, or Castrol wheel cleaner..... Both seem to work better with less effort than others I've tried. I just spray it on, let them sit about a minute, give them a quick pass with a soft long-bristle wheel cleaning brush, and hose them off.
    Done.

chrome wheels are cake to take care of. I've always used soap and water and a dedicated chrome-only wash mit (don't want to use that brake dust mit on my paint!). Never had an issue keeping them clean for the past 9 years of doing it that route.

Now on my beater, where I don't even want to take a wash mit to the wheels I'll use wheel cleaner and spray it on and rinse it off, but for the truck, soap & water and a mitt is usually all you need!

    Do you mean Meguiar's....

    Hot Rims® All Wheel® Cleaner
    or
    Meguiar's® Gold Class™ All Wheel® Cleaner

I have not tried the Castrol wheel cleaner but I think my local Ace hardware carries it. I'll try it....what are your results?

clean them regularly is the best trick. I never use anything on my wheels other than the same soap & water as the paint. I do the paint first, then clean the wheels with the rest. Chrome is pretty resistant to buildup, so they clean easily if you clean them regularly. Even easier to clean if you keep them waxed, the dirt pertty much washes off with the hose!

i use mothers fx wheel cleaner! that stuff is hands down the best i have ever used. my stock 20s on my truck where never taken care of before i bought her with 48k. i tried alot of different stuff over the years to try and clean the insides. never had any luck so i usually didnt care. when i changed my 22s out for the winter this year i decided to try the fx on them. 104k miles worth of gunk came off and they look pretty damn good. i use the soap and water method like josh does on my 22s when cleaning the truck. i only use the fx when the wheels are off the truck. so they usually get done twice a year. i use the fx to clean the wifes car with her painted wheels, her car makes a lot of brake dust. i just spray it on, let it sit for a min or 2 then hose it off. they come out like brand new.

Ok, you inspired me to do the insides.
Just did 'em today. Four wheels took two hours.
Thanks for the feedback and product suggestions.

    Products Used:

Eagle One Chrome & Wire Wheel Cleaner
(Easily melted away the old thick nasty brake dust)
NOTE: After use, wash and rinse wheels thoroughly!!!

    Eagle One Never Dull
(Finished the job and brought out a bright shine)

    Glare Professional Polish
(Polish sealant so they stay that way)

BTW - I found the Ford chrome is beginning to "blister and peel" in a few small places inside the wheels.
    Anyone know the cause?

Heck, Even though I take meticulous care of my wheels, my chrome is doing the same thing on the OUTSIDE!
I think the guy I bought it from towed a large boat with it (heavy - duty rear helper springs & electric brake setup), so I think they were routinely dipped in sea-water. The first time I removed the wheels to rotate them, it was like they were welded on - had to use copious amounts of penetrating oil, and pound the heck out of them with a rubber mallet to break them free....one of the fronts took me two days to loosen!

I always tell my wife; if we ever win the lottery, I'm going to do a built Lightning engine/tranny swap, full body-off repaint/restoration.... including re-chroming the wheels

    looks great!

it's normal for the chrome to blister up a little on the inside. Well I guess it shouldnt be normal lol, but its not unheard of. I've been lucky with my 2000, they're still in great shape, but I think part of that is I always clean the insides of the wheels. I'm sure the brake dust caking up doesn't help the chrome out!

Great job!...now with them so clean it will be easy to just stick your hand through the slots in the wheels and wipe the back sides each time you wash the truck. It'll keep them like new!
