It appears that the OEM spring fastener was two plastic rivets through the spring holes.
I put JB weld on the plastic and pressed the spring. Some JB weld came through the spring holes.
This created two mushrooms of JB weld on the top and it looks like the original plastic rivets.
The two screws that Harley8029 did looks like they will be stronger and hold better than what I did.
In the event that the JB weld does not hold I'll probably just say..."Ahh screw it!" and be done with it.

Still haven't fixed this yet... but thanks for all great info.

Screws seem like the easiest and strongest fix.
Yes officer... I am aware of how fast I was going!

I just did this - but I have to push in harder than before to get it to "unhook" to open and "hook" to close.

I just glued the big metal thing on... There's a little paper clip looking thing on a swivel that hangs down inside the dash - was i supposed to do something with that too?

    My results...

The JB Weld did not hold. The first time I pushed it in it broke off.
I did the "two small screws" and it's very solid.

The "spring" can be pressed in or out to make it easier.
After taking the.drawer out many times I found an easier way.

Pull out the drawer and reach underneath.
Press down on the two spring clips and it comes right out.
No risk of damage from using a screwdriver on the front.

This busted today while fishing in the drawer for change at the drive thru. 1st post I review is the key to the madness - 2 screws it is.
