Changing the Opening Screen Image for the AVN5500 & AVN6600

Changing the Opening Screen Image for the AVN5500 & AVN6600

    - Same for the AVN2454, AVN5435 and AVN30D

The image displayed on the opening screen (which is displayed when the power is turned on) can be changed to a Jpeg image stored on a CD-R/RW.

Step 1> "When storing the image data in a CD-R/RW disc make a text file named "CSM.txt" (any content /text is OK) and store it together with the image data.
To create this necessary file, open Microsoft Notepad In Accessories. The text data within the file does not matter. Simply save the file as "CSM.txt" and Include the file on the same disc with the image or images you wish to use for the Opening Screen.
Tip: If you need to modify the image to fit the AVN screen, you can use Microsoft Paint in Accessories or any other image adjustment software.
Format for the disc and image data:
    - File size: smaller than 100KB
    - File name: ISO9660 standard (keep file name less than 18 characters)
    - File extension: .jpg
    - Max image size: 416(W) x 240(H) pixels
Step 2> Burn the image or images you want to the CD-R/RW along with the CSM.txt file. Keep the files on the root of the CD – do not store them in folders.

    Changing the Welcome screen
Eject your DVD disc from the AVN unit and insert your newly created CD-R/RW disc. It will only take a few seconds to read the image data. DO NOT turn off the ignition key or power down your AVN unit during this time.
A screen will come up saying “Opening Image Change” – touch that button. The names of the images you burned to the disc should now be visible in a list. Simply touch the name of the image you want to use as your Welcome screen. The screen will change to confirm your selection. Confirm your change by pressing “OK”.
Be sure to remove your image disc before turning your AVN unit off.

    I'm not sure.
Make an image(s) to the parameters in the post above. Add the CSM.txt file and the image(s) file to the "root" of the CD and burn to a CD-RW. Boot the AVN HU with the CD in the DVD slot and let us know your results.

Here is the Map Update Information from the Eclipse website.

    Eclipse Map update DVD.pdf

I know the prior Map version DVD 1.4 did not have the "Change Welcome Screen" feature.

Wonder if that will work for the old AV series. I hate my backgrounds on mine.

Here's another HU opening splash screen...just for fun.

This one always seems to get worried looks from the passengers.

Matt do you have the 5495 or one of the other ones? I am curious to see if it works on the 5495, but its too hot out to go try it myself!

PS-The 5495 has a SW bug that won't allow you to update the maps. Eclipse at one point would allow you to send the whole HU in for a new HD which wipes out your music library and of course leaves you with no tunes for a couple weeks. All for the low low price of around $300 bucks. I don't even think they offer that anymore.....

I'm not positive but I believe the change the opening screen image feature only works with the V 2.3 MDV-09D and up map disc.
It appears from the Eclipse PDF file that all but three of their HU's will take the V 2.3 map & software update.
Check the LATEST 2010 Eclipse Map Updates PDF file.
It looks like the latest 2010 map & software update will work with all of the previous Eclipse models except AVN726E and AVN76D.

    Which model do you have?

Yes you can adjust night time brightness. Which Head Unit do you have?

I've been looking at the Kenwood DNX7160
